US Navy Chaplain Begins Hunger Strike To Protest Military Ban On Mentioning Jesus
WTF is going on???????

US Navy Chaplain Begins Hunger Strike To Protest Military Ban On Mentioning Jesus

(UPI) -- A U.S. Navy chaplain has begun a hunger strike in Washington to protest a military policy that bans mentioning Jesus in Christian prayer.

Navy Lt. Gordon Klingenschmitt believes he may lose his job next month and be evicted from military housing, because during the summer of 2004 aboard the USS Anzio, he preached an evangelistic sermon at the funeral of a Catholic sailor in a base chapel. The lieutenant said he was reprimanded by two senior chaplains and, in March, sent ashore to Norfolk.

Official military policy allows any sort of prayer, but Klingenschmitt told The Washington Times that in reality, evangelical Protestant prayers are censored.

The American Center for Law and Justice has gathered 173,000 signatures on a petition seeking an executive order, and 73 members of Congress have signed on, saying in an Oct. 25 letter to the president: "In all branches of the military, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Christian chaplains to use the name of Jesus when praying."

Navy Chaplain Begins Hunger Strike in Response to Possible Immediate Discharge from the Military for Praying in the ’Name of Jesus’

2005-12-21 -- WDC Newswire

Chaplain Gordon James Klingenschmitt made his announcement in front of the White House at a Tuesday morning news conference.

Admirals from the Pentagon have stripped Rev. Klingenschmitt of his uniform and forbid him to pray in the name of Jesus in public unless he is wearing civilian clothes.

Chaplain Klingenschmitt is asking President Bush to issue an Executive Order allowing for military chaplains to pray according to their individual faith traditions.

Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, Director of the Christian Defense Coalition, also announced today that he is joining Rev. Klingenschmitt in his hunger strike to support religious freedom.

Chaplain Klingenschmitt, states, "Today I’m beginning a hunger strike, and this communion bread will be my last meal, as I call upon the President to protect religious freedom and issue an executive order allowing chaplains to pray according to their faith traditions. All this week I will praying in front of the White House at 6:00 p.m. for President Bush to have the courage to sign this order."

This is beyond belief. When a Rabbi, Budhist or Taliman prays, there's no censorship on prayer. But let a Christian pray in Jesus' name and you've got free speech rights thrown to the wind.

During many public prayer services, I noticed many "supposed" Christian pastor's praying to God, but never mentioning or ending in Jesus' name.

This country has sold out, it's only a matter of time before using the word Jesus will constitute a hate crime...stay tuned.

Why the hunger strike, heck the body is worth money if it dies of hunger, they will collect the organs for organ transplants.

whats in the name? when god is truely in your heart...a real believer would know a name or body would be irrelevant when praying to god.

Then I'd suggest that you are the type of person who has no idea of what it means to stand up for what you beleive in...no matter what the cost.

Re: US Navy Chaplain Begins Hunger Strike To Protest Military Ban On Mentioning Jesus
Isn't there something in scripture about, paraphrased:

- He who would deny me to man, I will deny him to my Father -

He's "Christ"ian for God's sake. And you can't mention, Christ Jesus?

That's total bullshit. I'll bet if he was praying to Molech, the owl god, he'd be ok.

It's because, they know Jesus is coming back, and he's pi$$ed. The world is setting the stage for the final battle. Christians are walking targets, because we pitch for the other team.

Military chaplain fired for praying in Jesus' name
By Julia Duin
The Washington Times
Published December 21, 2005

WASHINGTON -- To pray -- or not to pray -- in Jesus' name is the question plaguing an increasing number of U.S. military chaplains, one of whom began a multiday hunger strike outside the White House yesterday.

"I am a Navy chaplain being fired because I pray in Jesus' name," said Navy Lt. Gordon Klingenschmitt, who will be holding 6 p.m. prayer vigils daily in Lafayette Park.

The hunger strike is intended to persuade President Bush to issue an executive order allowing military chaplains to pray according to their individual faith traditions. The American Center for Law and Justice has gathered 173,000 signatures on a petition seeking an executive order.

Seventy-three members of Congress have joined the request, saying in an Oct. 25 letter to the president, "In all branches of the military, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Christian chaplains to use the name of Jesus when praying."

About 80 percent of U.S. troops are Christian, the legislators wrote, adding that military "censorship" of chaplains' prayers disenfranchises "hundreds of thousands of Christian soldiers in the military who look to their chaplains for comfort, inspiration and support."

I can't help thinking about all our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan that aren't allowed to hear Jesus' name anymore and it just breaks my heart.
