Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 20498295 Portugal 07/25/2012 04:37 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Wednesday, July 25, 2012 5,467 hospitalized for heatstroke Jiji The number of people taken to hospitals by ambulance due to heatstroke in the week through Sunday more than doubled from the preceding week to 5,467, preliminary data showed Tuesday. The figure, up from 2,622 in the week to July 15, hit the highest for a single week this summer, according to the data released by the Fire and Disaster Management Agency. Deaths caused by heatstroke increased to 13 from five in the preceding week. Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture had the most victims, with ambulances called for 388 people each. They were followed by 382 in Aichi Prefecture and 372 in Osaka Prefecture. People aged 65 or older accounted for 45.9 percent of the total. Since the agency started this year's survey on May 28, 11,116 people were taken to hospitals as of Sunday. Twenty-three people have died. The rise in heatstroke cases reflects the smothering heat wave, with temperatures of 35 degrees or higher observed in many places for the four days from July 16, agency officials said. In Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, the mercury shot up to 37.6 on July 16 and to 39.2 the following day, according to the Meteorological Agency. [link to www.japantimes.co.jp] |

I dont mean everything I say to be literal. I just like to throw around ideas, and play devil's advocate. JanJan User ID: 8542752 United States 07/25/2012 07:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Been to Japan before TSHTF - and everywhere I went (it was in the summer) the a/c was cranked to 'arctic'. Now, b/c of Fukushima, they can't use that much electricity. That was one of the first things I thought about. Not sure why it didn't happen, or was reported last year, but this doesn't surprise me at all. Really humid and hot and very little a/c = heat related deaths. Wonder if they were more caught up in the radiation news and didn't report deaths last year - the last thing they'd need - more deaths related to them nuking themselves. Thanks for finding this Luisport!! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 10856022 United States 07/25/2012 07:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Put it all together...massive tornadic destruction in USA, winds of 65+ mph out of nowhere, funny gas coming from ocean, 97% of Greenland ice sheet melted in space of one week, thousands of Japanese suffering heat stroke, radiation poisoning etc... Looks like things are way out of normal. Had a dream last night people were traveling looking for fresh streams or springs as most had almost dried up, or were just barely trickling very contaminated water. never had a dream like that before. And I dreamed about 911 way before it happened, over and over, so who knows we might be in for a real bad stretch shortly. |

WindyMind User ID: 7244814 United States 07/26/2012 10:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Why the concern about heat stroke? The Japanese are said to not be allowed to get treatment or diagnosis for radiation poisoning, so why can they go to hospitals for heat stroke. Is Japan pretending to give a shit? Heat stroke is immediate therefore it is real. |

Quoting: chris999 Wouldn't surprise me because I have always been weird about heat, in the sense that - I always found it cold and couldn't cope in the heat, at all. Now this is what's weird because this year the heat is here but I'm not finding it like I normally do (as in, nearly passing out etc) but I feel like my skin is literally burning. On the forearms mostly. Like if someone held a hot metal rod towards my skin but didn't touch it completely. Very irritating and strange. |
