Any avid reader of the Urantia Papers besides myself?
I was introduced to this amazing book in 1995. I delved into it deeply for four years but then had put it aside for a while. Recently, I sensed a calling to read the book. So now, I am back into tuning my mind to these wonderful papers that make up the book. Any other readers of UB? What have you learned from it? Please share your experience.

i have it

i've not felt the same pull to read it as the pull i felt to obtain it.

i leaf through it every now and then.

i assume it to be full of errors, lies, and fabrications. but that's not to say that i assume it to contain no truth. my judgement will be reserved until it's been read. until then, since it's at the front of my bookshelf, it's an interesting object to discuss with my friends who have never heard of it.

Read em back in the mid-70s. Pretty mind blowing.

But it is channelled material, so who is to say if it is nonsense or truth?

I think the more diverse stuff people read and consider, the better.

excuse me, but i'll reserve that statement for after i've read it, thank you. i won't have you make that decision for me.

as far as truth in christianity, there is truth there that applies universally just as there is that kind of truth EVERYwhere. for you to discount the true tenets of christianity in the face of its ignorant corrupters makes you no better than they are for obscuring the true source of their religion.

it's all the same.

I had a friend in the 1970s who said he got a call from an associate suggesting the Urantia Book. He was very skeptical saying to himself okay "I will read it until I find it is garbage." It turned out after a year and several readings he found absolutely nothing wrong with it. About a year later while traveling I picked up a copy of the book. I began reading then while on a bus ride from San Jose to Seattle, I really gave it a roll. My findings are that it is a bliss book, so to speak. It really was astounding. Later I joined some study groups and enjoyed being with people who read it out loud.

There is always someone who will tell you it is not a good book, but they will not even read it and discover a walk with Jesus on his ministry in great detail.

Later in the 1970s COINTELPRO infiltrated the study groups, spreading dissension. Even on the street people talked bible talk disliking the Urantia Book, but they were put up to it by that operation. Any possibility of reasonable social change gets quashed by these idiots. These monsters cannot stand anything like the Universal Presence of a Universal Father in everyone, and a Brotherhood of all.

And yet the same revolutionary beliefs for which our forebears fought are still at issue around the globe—the belief that the rights of man come not from the generosity of the state, but from the hand of God.

John F. Kennedy Inaugural Address

Lincoln's economic advisor Henry C. Carey explained the universal issue in his 1851 Harmony of Interests:

"Two systems are before the world.... One looks to pauperism, ignorance, depopulation, and barbarism; the other to increasing wealth, comfort, intelligence, combination of action, and civilization. One looks towards universal war; the other towards universal peace. It is up to you, as I have said before. COINTELPRO is a disinformation spreader regarding serious things like social change to help ordinary people. I do not mean to call you any names, and you are totally entitled to your opinion. I am happy you have read the book, and it is only a book, no one forces you to read it. It is not a religion that compels people to act against their free will, it does not use force. It is just a book. That is why I like it, there are no shadowy idiots like Jim Jones ruining everything. If you or anyone else does not like the book then don't read it.

Re: Any avid reader of the Urantia Papers besides myself?
wow, where does one begin.

i have the read the urantia book at least three times, but i have read entire segments at least a dozen times. right now, i am re-reading the very first paper on God.

the most important thing I think I have learned from the Urantia Book is that there is a divine purpose and a universal unfolding of events that awaits each of us if we simply believe its possible.

The distinction of the Urantia Book from every other major presentation, the thing that sets it apart,is that for the first time a universal perspective is presented that declares the entire universe is a living, vibrant, intelligently guided body - and then, rather than just saying it, goes on to explain every level, every being, every step and almost every detail of this vast universe.

It is no wonder so many people have a hard time with it - its like going from learning adding and subtraction, and then discovering algebra.

I believe that anyone who just reads the first 7 pages of Part 1, regardless if they ever read another word- will sense of deep appreciation that whoever wrote it knew what they were talking about.

Enjoy
