AW! I probably got 40 or more running around my house someplace. you are never 3 feet from a spider. I know there is over 100 in the garage. Just a typical day in the south!

Yep. The little bastards are thick here in the southern US. As a kid living on a farm, we had them bad. I remember tearing down a storage building once, we flipped over a piece of plywood and about 100 of the little fuckers went scattering almost as fast as we did. Amazingly, my dad was the only one who ever got bit, even though we had them in the house, too, and his reaction was very mild.

I will stomp them anywhere I see them.

I was bit on the arm by one of them back in 99 or thereabouts in Durango CO. My arm swelled up twice as big but eventually went back to normal. Took loads of Vit C and multi's and also some stuff from the local ND. Never saw the spider but my arm remembers the days of pain.

Yikes! He has seen at least forty brown recluse spiders crawling up the walls and across the floors.

Brown recluse spiders infesting Omaha man's home

An Omaha man's apartment is infested with venomous spiders thought to be brought in by the hot summer temperatures.

Dylan Baumann said he has been catching brown recluse spiders in his apartment near 77th and Howard streets for four months.

"I saw them crawling across my walls, crawling along my floor boards and saw it crawling by my foot," Baumann said.

Re: OMAHA, NE--Forty Venomous Brown Recluse spiders invade man's apartment
i grew up in a farm house..full of them

there are few things you can do to avoid them

first of all..they do NOT make webs..AT ALL..

so no..cobwebs are NOT made by them..

they only hide in damp, dark places..shoes..under pillows..cellars..etc..

They do NOT attack you, i.e..they are not out to get you..just be cautious and watch for them..

rarely are they in cities...its mostly country homes.

Know what they look like..not all spiders are harmful, and if you kill them ALL..you may be killing one of the brown recluse' enemies..(good on your side!)

its very good to be educated about them.

Luckily..all the years i grew up with a farm house infested with them..i was never bitten..

I did, however, find them under my pillow almost nightly..

I still have the scar from my brown recluse bite seven years ago. It bit me on my lower thigh, and the bite bubbled into this festering green mess, and later turned orange/purple mix, and later burned for like five weeks. For another seven months there was a stiff paint that I felt anytime I put pressure on that leg. It was so horrible.

Seven years later, and they're coming back for more?!? uhoh

Get rid of the food source and they will leave. Spiders have to eat too. What kind of other bugs are there? We use "Mr Bug" or something like that. The bug man comes every few months and sprays some stuff around and whenever I see a bug or a spider it is either dead or on it's back wiggling its legs in the dance of death.

First time I heard of them was last year, a fire fighter was bitten by one in our bush (northern Ontario) I was not even aware they lived up here, but a lot of things that never were are now changing times.

KoFFee, Thank you for the post/thread.

It appears after watching the video that we may have an issue with these things. We are building a new house in NC. One of the guys installing duct work in the house brought a pipe to our attention with a spider in the pipe. We guessed that it was a BR spider. With the video you posted I am sure now. I will definitely take precautions.

It looks like maybe the spiders are arriving with the materials.

Thanks again for the post.

My mom lost a good part of her calve and had several operations. Part of living in the South. We rented a house while we were building and it was infested. Expensive and long process to exterminate them, regular sprays and powders don't work. The traps do help though.

I live in Texas I do spring cleaning every year. I find at least 30 dead brown recluse spiders behind my pictures and under furniture. People who live in the area's where they are should do the same. They are a recluse spider they will not hurt you if they are not threated. I have seen a few at night when I get up in the night. They have never bothered me or my family in our house. My oldest son had a bite it was in a box he did not feel the bite but in two days had a hole in his arm. They had to cut it out it was gross.

Re: OMAHA, NE--Forty Venomous Brown Recluse spiders invade man's apartment
Same thing happened to me with AHS or the "Hobo" spider. I stored a box of stuff for a friend from Houston in my unused upsatirs bedroom.
couple of months later, started getting small bites that turned necrotic, like brown recluse bites. I got bit 17 times, my wife 23 times. The bites occurred at night so we couldnt figure out WTF.
Then, laying in bed with multiple MRSA Staph infections, thinking I was dyin one night, I noticed a tiny spider webbing down from the ceiling (the unused bedroom was above me). I caught the spider in a bowl, then another, then another. AHA! now I know the culprit!

After I moved my wife and I out of the house, I went upstairs to investigate the next morning. A funnel type web, with multiple open egg sacs was in the box! I looked up the spiders and found they were Hobos(supposedly we don't have them in TX, but that's BULLSHIT)
It took two weeks of bug bombs set off every two days in my house to rid it of the damn spiders.(we had it exterminator sprayed professionally first, which didnt make a dent in the population .Apparently if the spray doesnt contact the spider directly, it doesnt kill them we found out afterwards)

So, just a warning people, SPRAY ANY BOXES OF STUFF YOU BRING HOME! IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE ONE DAY!
And if you have any weird little bites(cant feel the baby spiders when they bite you)that develop Staph infections, set off a bug bomb in every room of the house on multiple occasions to get rid of spider infestations. You will have better results than a pro spray.
Just thought I'd put this out there if it can help anyone

Hi Anne,

I just watched another video about these creepy crawlers and it had to do with picking up your dirty clothes off the floor only to discover that there is a brown recluse hidden in there.

That has happened to me more than once. I just reminded my sons to be careful, too, as they leave their dirty clothes on the floor quite often.

I have a feeling I'll be down in my basement tomorrow--vacuum cleaning all the cobwebs I can find.
 Quoting: KoFFee_

well I suppose that can be a hiding place, but I've never seen a spider in a cobweb. Just saying - a lot of people think cobwebs have to do with spiders, and they don't...

And before anyone corrects me , Yes, we have BR's here, but they are mostly docile. The culprits had huge palps (boxing gloves) and I caught both male and female in my bowl of different sizes (multiple generations??) I stayed on the computer for days researching them.
They were definitely Hobos.

I intended to take them to my local Ag agent to send to A&M to have classified officially, but I was near death and on Cipro for the Staph infections (I went through 4 anti bacterial meds to kill the Staph, was bitten on my balls, so surgery was out of the question!!!) But they all died in the bowl and I was tired of looking at the basatrds and threw them out.

Luckily, my balls and I made it! LOL

Well I have seen at least 25 of them in the year we have lived outside of Taos NM in an old adobe house. The woman who owned the house before lived for years in Europe where a lot of homes had no screens. She just left the windows opened and all sorts of critters came in. We have added screens.

But we have wood viga type ceilings. They jump down from them and climb on the adobe walls. They aren't aggressive, and they don't move too fast.

I too use those sticky strip pads. I catch a lot of critters with those.

My chihuahua seems to have extra sensory perception, I think God gave it to him to protect him because he is such a little guy...he always sees them before I do and alerts me..
