OMAHA, NE--Forty Venomous Brown Recluse spiders invade man's apartment | |
KoFFee_ (OP) User ID: 1373078 United States 07/25/2012 09:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A few years back, my neighbor was down in her basement and a brown recluse fell from the ceiling onto the back of her neck and then down into her nightgown. She was bit and within a few hours her neck was all swollen and she couldn't breathe. She was hospitalized for about 3 months. Once home, she remained on antibiotics for another six months. She had one of the worst reactions I've seen to the poison of this spider. Be careful when rummaging through boxes that have been in your basement. I've come across some nasty spiders while doing this, now I wear gloves. Acts 20:24 "This man really is the Savior of the world!" John 4:42 Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen. That has happened to me more than once. I just reminded my sons to be careful, too, as they leave their dirty clothes on the floor quite often. Anonymous Coward User ID: 20543714 United States 07/26/2012 12:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Holy Cow! With 40 plus in his apartment it's a wonder he didn't get bit! I got bit by one in my basement in N. Calif. 2 days before I was leaving on trip to Arizona for a graduation at ERAU. For two days it was just a little red bump on my hand that I thought was just a harmless spider bite. While I was driving a horrible, gross thing starting growing at the bite site & a red line was creeping up my arm. The growth was extremely painful and had a swirling, colored liquid in it. I was driving through desert with not many towns & no hospitals but finally made it to Prescott. By that time the red line was half way up my upper arm getting closer to my heart. The emergency dr. called in a "brown recluse specialist" & they did an emergency surgery. I was in hospital for a week there. The drs. there told me to call my county health dept. in Calif. to report the bite which I did when I finally got home. They told me that my county may claim they don't have them because of harsher winters but told me to tell them that they hide in houses, barns, etc. & do survive & breed even in areas with a harsh winter! I relayed the message but the health dept here still denies that we have them. So I guess if I had gone to a local hospital I would have been misdiagnosed & would have probably died! What a stroke of luck that I had that graduation to go to where the experts are (Arizona & South West) after being bit by one! |
