It begins this afternoon - already cloudy and raining here in Southwestern CT

Possible Derecho - high winds, hail, severe thunder and lightning

Lots of expensive real estate and businesses in its path

Did I just beat Doorbert and Luisport to this?!!!

Where I am we got the worst of it, and I am FAIRLY certain none of this was a Derecho. Definitely intense in some parts, but the east coast talked this up way too much.

Its hard not to when the front is 1,400 miles long, traveling through drought regions where trees are like firewood, dry and BRITTLE!

The lightning here is filling the entire sky. It's crazy how big it is. Just started raining and blowing here.

what state are you in?

i am outside of hartford CT. when the first band came threw it discharged a ton of high altitude lightning that seemed to spread out across the sky like a spiders web. A good burst would go off every 5 min or so lighting up the entire sky with a pinkish glow. I have never seen anything like it. but that is about all that came of it, a little rain and it lasted about an hour. seems to be clear now. I am happy it fizzled away.

Re: ALERT!!! Possible Derecho for NY and Southern New England!!
Let's just summarize this Northeastern storm (Derecho).

First of all, clearly, it was not a big deal to most afterall and was no where near as damaging as the recent one that left millions without power for many days in the Ohio, Virgina, Washington D/C regions.

BUT... with that said, this was still a highly unusual and powerful storm. As some have mentioned, the fact that this is becoming more common now, is obviously a very bad sign.

To those who say it was a doom fail, or that many of us overreacted... please keep in mind certain localized areas were hit hard. It seems parts of upstate New York and Central Pennsylvania got some heavy winds and tornadoes.
This caused some tree downings and left thousands without power. Not everyone was unscathed. Many of us were lucky.

I believe we should consider the bigger picture here. Our enviornment and atmosphere is changing for the worse and becoming more hostile to life in general. Personally, I don't want to be under tornado and hurricane wind-like storm warnings on a regular basis and simply accept that as the new normal. Clearly, something is effecting our planet and it's only going to get worse. This storm "wall" was not natural.

On a positive note, it was not as bad for the majority as it could have been or as they warned. Consider this one... a warning shot.

I hope some of you take this as a sign to prepare for future extreme weather events and also, to research and consider WHY this is happening. I won't include my personal belief on that in this thread. I encourage eveyone to come to their own conclusions... despite the fact that a rapidly increasing pole shift (for example) is becoming painfully obvious and apparent.

I also would LOVE to take a minute to thank all those who take their time to contribute and update such extreme weather events. Knowledge is power and those who provide it are doing a great service to us all. Also, the sense of community here is very refreshing and comforting. Knowing that we are not alone in times of change is a wonderful thing.

Sorry, to be strange, but usually these weather event threads simply die out when the storm passes. I wanted to add a little footnote to it.

See you all next time! Till then, I sincerely hope you all stay well and enjoy your weekend!
