It's really just normal summertime storms...really...I'm here in the northeast and am watching them roll in now. Calm down derecho-heads.

Normal summertime storms don't usually have 60-80 mph winds that down trees and powerlines. They also don't include hail storms. Not to mention the strange amount of lightning stikes over a short period. None of this is normal.

still not normal here. i'm in virginia and we have some bad storms, we have hurricane remnants, we have blizzards and ice storms. we sometimes have a random tornado but nothing terribly big (and usually from a tropical storm). but i'm 40+ and not once in my life has a storm ripped through that will take years to clean up. the aftermath of isabel was pretty bad (and during was scary as heck) but the recent derecho was way worse. they are STILL cleaning up powerlines, no joke. entire wooded areas demolished. and the lightning, never in my life have i seen such lightning in this region. elderly people said the same. and now to be getting another one possibly, it's nuts. and kind of exciting, too, i must admit.

oh, people, if you get one of these keep an eye on your cell phones. around here people's phones were charging themselves without being plugged in during the last derecho. just something to observe, kwim?

There was a prophecy from a few years ago that said straight-line winds will take out ENTIRE COMMUNITIES. (it did not use the term 'derecho' but it seems clear it was referring to non-tornadic winds) So, this could be the Preview Show for the Community Beat-Down in the Prophetic Future!
