ASPEN, Colo. (AP) -- The U.S. is likely to weigh options ranging from military assistance to direct strikes to drive a growing al-Qaida presence out of the coup-wracked African nation of Mali, a Pentagon official said Thursday.

"We cannot allow al-Qaida to sit in an ungoverned space and have a sanctuary and impunity," said Michael Sheehan, the Defense Department's assistant secretary for special operations.

The next stop in the unending "war on terror". But I guess the unending part, was the point all along.

As a nation, we have spent over 17 trillion dollars on the war on poverty. Why not help out these African-Africans too?

PARIS (AP) -- The Ivory Coast president says military intervention in Mali is "inevitable" within weeks, if there's no quick change in the West African country where Islamist extremists rule the north

UPDATE!!!

Confirmation from an African leader about the possibility of a military intervention in Mali. The article states, that the United States would provide "logistical support". Any opinions on what that means?
