That is a major part of the problem. Look at the picture that was on the bottom of this site the other day. Obama on a bike, while Putin is on a horse without a shirt on. Implying Obama is "gay" for riding a bike. That's the mentality. |

OP, ..AND you export all your pork /ham /lard /tulips to whomever wants it. LOL Yep We have the biggest non-asian port in the world (Rotterdam). 68 percent of all eggs in the world are made in Holland. Fertile... LOL |

Many people ride bikes here in the States; California, Oregon, Massachusetts, NEW YORK, Texas (mainly Austin), CHICAGO, the list goes on, and on. |

How many of us have to drive 15-45 miles to get to our jobs everyday? Not to mention climate.... In the winter months in various parts of the country, riding a bike is not possible. Riding a bicycle to get around from A to B for a large majority of Americans is simply not feasible when you consider how spread out things are and the distances involved. If I lived in a smaller urban area or a small city, I could definitely consider it. I have excellent metabolism so weight has never been an issue but I would consider biking as a good means of transportation, just as long as I don't get a DUI! |

Quoting: ANHEDONIC This is not 1 day, it's a few months, day in day out : The video you posted, there is a small dusting on the ground lol.... Here in the Northeast USA, we routinely will get storms of between 6-18 inches of snow! The snow on the roads gets plowed towards the curb and it significantly reduces the width of the road. Then you have various people who don't shovel their sidewalks or do a crappy job shoveling their side walks and it would be very difficult to bike on the sidewalk. How hot are your summers? Even if I worked close to where I live, I could never bike to work in the summer because I would arrive drenched in sweat and in need of a new set of clothes! |

To give you an impression, The Netherlands is 16,033 sq miles, between the size of Maryland and West Virginia. for bigger distances, we use these in Europe : |

We eat the same food as the rest of the country. So don't go blaming the food. It all boils down to activity levels. People in manhattan walk everywhere and eat less than almost anywhere else in the country. The other boroughs of NYC are fat as hell though but still. Lower than the nationwide average . |
