Plus, there do tend to be a lot of teritorial dogs out in the county that will go after cyclists, walkers, and runners. It's the main reason you typically see walkers on the county back roads either carrying a sawn off broom handle or a pistol, and I've given up trying to go walking. The last time I tried was shortly after we bought our house, and I had two different large dogs start after me before I'd even gotten within fifty yards of their owner's property. That's not even counting coyotes, which have been getting more brash every year, and the odd and end half domesticated dog breed, half coyote pups some morons decide to raise. I'll stick to my collection of workout DVDs and weights, thanks. They're less effective, truth be told, but they're safer than trying to cycle, walk, or run where I happen to live.
