No seriously, I was impressed by Europeans, there is an amazing public awareness of these matters. While I was in Belgium there was a farm that planted Monsanto GMO potatoes,it was some new Monsanto program that was supposed to start, one of the University profs went and tore them out of the ground with her biology class. She got in trouble for it but the public response in her defense was impressive. Also even the older people there know the internet and use youtube and watch documentaries to stay informed on that kind of stuff. People are aware and even though there's the EU regulations and overlords and whatnot the nations refuse to be homogenized by it.

It is a genetic thing, races in the US recently are prone to obesity.

MR Neanderthal let me enlightened you is not we see bikes as a kids thing but that most cities in the U.S. are not very bike friendly due to the size of the streets, highways and how sprawled they are. In places like San Francisco, Seattle and Oregon people do embrace it and not only that we ride bikes up 25% incline streets compared to your Neanderthal old people cruiser bikes.

YOU IDIOT I'm not talking about Your country I'm talking about MINE the U.S. does not have those bike lanes. Our streets are NOT narrow. The modern cities in the U.S. are very spread out with large street and no bike lines making it impossible for bikers.

Where are the people who actually USE the bike to do stuff ?

Bring kids to school, go to work, do shopping, work out...

Americans are, in my opinion, much more likely to eat to gain a sense of satisfaction rather than as a way of sustaining life and properly fueling their bodies. Even the way things are advertised, such as "loving it," "having it your way," and some of my favorites like "escaping" or "having a rendezvous" with a chocolate bar. It's fucking sick.
Why not escape into the outdoors? Or have a rendezvous with an actual human lover? Most of the people that allow themselves to be sucked into the MSM and advertisers don't understand that they are being programmed to equate food with happiness. Which unfortunately with happiness at a seeming short supply means we start putting it in our mouths for lack of a better idea.

True only about a third of the U.S. hold passports. That is still over 100,000,000 of us running around the world. The thing a lot of people who have never visited The U.S. or Canada don't really understand is how big it truly is here. Sometimes the distance it takes for us to get to the next state you guys would have crossed a country or two or more. Let me just tell you sometimes going from one state to the next you may feel you are in a totally different country.

Up until a few years ago we could all travel between Mexico and Canada without a passport. Now that has changed more and more people are getting one. If we go by ship to somewhere like Jamaica or the Bahamas we still don't need a passport. So, it is unfair to say Americans don't travel. We travel a lot on our own continent just as you guys do.

Anyway, there are many things I love about Europe and I think the U.S. needs to pay attention to our "elders". Obviously there are some things we are doing wrong. I have to agree with the poster about the food. There is a difference in taste and quality from our vegetables to yours. I never realized until the first time I left north america. It really is scary over here that even our "healthy" food is more than likely killing us. My sister is moving to Florence in October and I can't wait to have a free place to stay when I visit :)

Not only the Netherlands. When I went to South America a couple of years ago the people (even the really poor ones) were in much better shape then the Americans I see.

The older people didn't have 50 pill bottles in front of them, they didn't eat a lot of processed foods and most don't have a car so they have to walk.

In general, happier people. Juts an observation but a striking one. You can't even go to the store without there being a line of those damn scooters because people have let themselves go to the point where they can't walk. I am not talking about the disabled either..I am talking about young people who are so fat they can't waddle around the store or choose not to because they are lazy.

No, they don't. My daughter-in-law is Dutch and she has failed the English certification at the university here three times. She did THINK she could speak English, however.

Anyway, you are all very welcome to Europe, emigration is just a step too far for most, because of family attachments, jobs, wifes, chauvinism, but at least start traveling abroad to get a glimpse of the real world outside the Big Dream.

I didn't say every Dutch kid can talk university level English, just fluent, streetwise and standard business conversations.

I wouldn't go so far as to say, even almost say, that anywhere is better than the U.S. I will say some places have better systems in some pretty major areas. You hit the nail on the head though. No matter the faults of where we live for most of us "home" will always be where our family and friends are. We Americans need to get some control on things because we are literally destroying our home. You are also right that everyone needs to travel more. Americans need to go to other countries and continents to see other points of view and ways of living. There are also people that need to come and visit here to gain some perspective on us. All of us aren't fat or uneducated or untraveled. One thing I have learned during my travels is what gets broadcast about one country to another are the extremes both good and bad.
