Apparently all that pedaling has a very negative effect on the health of the 65+ in the Netherlands. Only 55% of them are able to live in their home independently compared to 88% of Americans aged 65+

This has nothing to do with sickness, but with free facilities.
The elderly in America do not get free supportive housing and free full care, so they have to rely on family fin money, housing, medicine and support.
READ your own statistics again.
low level of care : Netherlands 9 - USA 0.9
high level of care : Netherlands 3 - USA 4.6
which means that the elderly go to free supportive housing to get free low level care (cooking, washing, shopping).
look at "Own home, with formal care"...
Norway, one of the richest countries in the world, gives the low care at home, while Netherlands also pay for free housing.
