Way back in 1580, the English pirateer Drake attacked and robbed the Spanish Treasure Fleet as it was rounding Florida after leaveing Mexico{thus causeing the later attack on England by the Spanish Armada}. He captured several big ships and their cargos of gold and silver. He kept 100 spanish sailors to ransom back to Spain, but dumped 500+ P.O.W. galley slaves off on the coast of South Carolina. These POWs mostly had been captured from Turkey in the big sea battle for Malta in 1575. These muslim turks went inland up the rivers to the southeastern mountains and intermarried with the Cherokee..............this was four times as many people and 40 years before the Mayflower
