I did some research on asteroids. I found that in 2000, scientists were claiming than an Asteroid Defense System needs to be created.

Asteroid research is a big business just like cancer research. They will never develop a cure because there is too much money made on treating the disease. However, it doesnt stop them from getting the funding for research. Its how they make their living. the Asteroid business is no different.

While evidence on the surface of the planet demonstrates prior impacts, there is certainty that one will happen in the future -- its inevitable i suppose.

In the end, its necessary to spend money to prepare to deal with the issue.
