CNBC: Are Fiat Currencies Headed for a Collapse?
Are Fiat Currencies Headed for a Collapse?

Published: Friday, 27 Jul 2012 | 5:27 AM ET

As the investment world eagerly awaits more stimulus, a debate on a previously unthinkable topic has started to emerge – can fiat currencies survive round after round of debasement?

Some heavy hitters say the answer is no.

A fiat currency derives its worth from the issuing government - it is not fixed in value to any objective standard. That means central banks can print as much money as they want. If an economy is struggling, injecting more notes into the system juices activity but lowers the value of the currency in question.

With major central banks all desperate to stimulate their economies, some say currencies have entered a dangerous new phase often described as a race to the bottom.

the article ends with. . .

As the fiat currency debate gains momentum and relevance, one London-based manager of a billion dollar fund says the answer about what lies ahead is in the past.

“Every single fiat currency in history has collapsed, this time will be no different.”

So the MSM is finally giving in?

Or, they just want to be able to say that they said something about the inevitable collapse, once it happens.

This is one of the things Ron Paul has said all along. Now that he is out of the picture, the MSM brings it up.

Wonder what all the RP haters will say when the currency does collapse?

dont need the old timing, semi-coherant blatantly authoritarian pro-corporate-welfare rhetoric\baggage of RP to dislike our economic policy.

In fact, while the ridiculous tea party was looking for AA actors to carry guns at rallys, the 99%ers amassed a world wide anti-fiat, anti-centralized excess movement, and you guys wouldnt join them because the unions were on their sides...

its like the r3tardd 'growers' in cali - trying to join forces with the FOP and Busch to lobby against legalizatiion?

what idiots..

Of course not. History teaches us that all fiat currencies ever conceived have enriched the civilizations who adopted them, and they are all still with us today.

And the Bernanke/Giethner/Obama Axis knows economics, baby, so it's all good.

Whether you want to put the bs flag up or not the fact is that the easing by the fed continues to weaken the dollar. Gold and silver will double within the next 2 to 3 years.

I love this debate because it's still difficult to know which way to go. Gold is historically over stretched and holders all want you to keep buying but central governments are historically over retarded and keep printing.

Something tells me we "need" another massive distraction.

BTW there is tons more metal certificates than holdings and you can't eat gold.

The people of the world can just invent our own currency and lock most of the bankers out.

and we will eventually at this rate of technology - and the bankers know it cuz they hire smart people to tell them of these possibilities.

I think the currency is already in a collapse sitution. The currency in circulation and in bank computers is grossly under reported, when number become accurate our currency will lose all value.

I have no proof, but I know the government is lying in every financial report.

Cannot tell if this is sarcasm.... Must be..

However what you say is probably true - we just need to remove usurous debt practices from the financial calculations of the private organizations that have taken over our public right...... Education, security, healthcare, etc... Its not natural to have a profit motive in these things. Not a top down corporate style profit motive anyway.

No its not. The MSM would sell their own mother if got a single eyeball to their site/programs.

I remember a MSM article a couple of months ago "Top 10 Most dangerous financial reporters" 1/2 were legitimately independent: Tabbi, ZH, etc. The other half were 100% mainstream Milquetoast that the networks/websites were prepping for new time slots/columns.

At least it'll be where you left it.

If you left it in silver stocks on the stock market, it doesn't matter if you have 10000000 oz's you won't see one in return.

Physical silver IN YOUR POSSESSION is the most important, once the currency collapses you won't get to a safety deposit box.
