There is no wind on the moon. The flag shouldn't have been waving at all in the original broadcast.

Hoaxies don't really show up on NASA's radar, they are irrelevant.

The LRO's mission is to map the Moon, getting nice pictures of historical landing sites is just a bonus.

If they had any doubts they would have send a Lunakhod to one of the Apollo landing sites to acquire evidence.

And it wasn't. The only time it moved was when it was touched by the astronauts. Otherwise it was completely still. It was held out by a crossbar across the top for visual purposes but it didn't move.

Far away galaxies are acutally quite large they are just dim. They are captured with long exposures and then usually artificially colored. The Dawes limit governs the resolution possible based on the lens size.

Nor should you. They are far too dim to show up with the short exposures taken in bright sunlit landscapes. You can however find Venus in some photos. It was just bright enough and can be found in some pics (I think on Apollo 14, could be wrong) exactly where it should be.

The tech of the day, especially with regards photo work was low tech, manual (by hand) and inconsistent. That's why masters of the trade were used to attempt some kind of consistancy. Forgers, artists. Photoartists was a term then.



I worked with one of the first publically available digital, photo editing machines called Sitex, which was an Israeli built device. That still used reel to reels!!!

Now anyone can do it on a home PC with photoshop.

A good modern hoax starts with what 'we' would look for in a forgery, and you work back from there.

We can see other star systems from light years away in full colour glory, but all we get of the moon is some shitty pixelated image that looks like it was taken from a Kodak disposable?

I cant remember exactly, but around 6-7 years back, there was a web push to buy time on Hubble for the explicit purpose of pointing it at the moon, at the landing sites.

Donate what you could. I donated a couple of dollars via paypal.

The target was US$200K. Was reached with ease. It was going to be some time allotted to one of the US Universities.

Regular updates on where we were in the 'queue'.

Then a notice stating all monies would be refunded, and the various ways this could occur. Those who made cash donations via. post could get a bumper sticker in lieu of a payment etc.

Long story short, it was a fizzer, and the poor bastards who tried to do something nifty, were charged with being shifty, and scamming the public. Of the original amount only about $2K was unnaccounted for, in that the donators had neve gotten back to them.

I also d/l'd the SETI data packets and their program for a while. Never got any hits, but did get a free Cosmos magazine for my time.
