Senate Dems Amend Cybersecurity Bill With Gun Control Measure
Some Senate Democrats are convinced that the tragedy that struck Aurora, Colo. is enough to make a legislative move that would prevent some Americans from having access to high capacity gun magazines.
Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) plans to use the Cybersecurity Act – which recently saw bipartisan support in a procedural vote Thursday – as the vehicle for his “reasonable” gun control measure.
Democratic Sens. Frank Lautenberg (N.J.), Barbara Boxer (Calif.), Bob Menendez (N.J.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Jack Reed (R.I.) and Dianne Feinstein (Calif.) joined Schumer in sponsoring the amendment.
If passed, the law would make it illegal to possess or transfer high capacity gun magazines and drums capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition.
