It is a felony to record the police in Illinois and anyone for that matter look it up..I was involved in a case where my property was being damaged by someone and had it on film..The sheriff said I would get a felony for taping the incident and told me NEVER NEVER ever film the police it would be another felony...True story! Google it if you doubt me..

Thanks, is that true on a State to State level? It would be very scary not to be able to video tape illegal acts by authority if the situation called for it. The courts usually take the word of the police officer(s) rather than the citizens. Not to mention that citizens are being watched almost everywhere they go.

I haven't done much research as of yet to see if I could install security cameras on my property would be legal..But if it is legal than why can I not film anyone with a camcorder or other filming device...If anyone could answer I would appreciate it..
