Not just the adverts, but the content itself. There is only two demographics. children, who consume toys and food. Middle aged Americans 30-40 who have children and who also have money to spend. When is the last time you saw a show about 55 year olds? you dont. they listen to talk radio. |

My other entries include exposing Storage Wars, Auction Hunters and Pawn Stars as 100% staged "Reality-TV". To date; my articles have been read by hundreds-of-thousands of readers. I have received supportive letters, angry letters, threatening letters, but never a letter from any of the production companies that represent these programs, no they wouldn't dare. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 11438968 They wouldn't dare expose themselves to the scrutiny of the media as the legitimacy of these shows is unquestionable; they're totally phony. American Pickers is no different. Con't @ [link to www.americanpickersfake.com] Of course they are..ALL of them, all they do is steal fantastic treasures from unknowing owners and resell them at an incredible profit..Scams..that's about it. They have also increased the prices on REAL storage sales and have opened them to people writing things on boxes(Granny's Jewelry boxes) just to increase the price of the sale. Let's not forget the people trying to mimic the TV guys, I guess they think it's cool. As to Pawn Stars..Chumly, now there is someone who would last 5 minutes in a REAL Pawn shop. :nose23l36: SCOTLAND FOREVER America is the Grand Experiment..Let us not Fail.. Quoting: THE INQUISADOR I disagree with the bolded part. 90% of that "americana" junk is junk. Why would somebody pay $10,000 for a 70 year old motorcycle or bicycle frame? Why pay $800 for signage? If you live in a suburb/urban environment, you are not going to be allowed to hang a 10 ft neon advertizing A&W root beer when you dont sell A&W root beer. If you live in the countryside, nobody is going to see it. The whole deal is to provide a group of people "jobs" where they "resell" worthless junk, and make enough income to qualify for tax credits, write off all personal expenses, and get that tax bill down so you can still get food stamps. The other aspect is for these professional "collectors" (not the 90 year old farmer with a shed full of junk) to have the price supports needed to accomplish that lifestyle. The owner of a local "landmark destination" (think Hard Rock Cafe type place) retired and wanted to sell out all the "conversation pieces" as antiques. The online auctioneer spent a week cataloguing, photographing, researching ,etc. On the day of the sale, the "owner" canceled the whole thing cause the first few items sold for 5% of what he thought the "art" value was. |

Person445 (OP) User ID: 11438968 Canada 09/03/2012 02:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I enjoy watching the stuff they find but it is all so pre set-up.People who have large collections know values and are not going to give these 2 annoying guys a super deal .Just watch them get an orange crush sign that would bring $400 to $500 and the guy gives it to them for $65.It insults collectors intelligence.Everyone knows ebay prices that sold .I know 2 people that were picked by them it is all staged . Reply Mariah 08/25/2012 10:08 I think Danielle looks great just as she is! Don't care for the tats, but, it's not my skin, nor my cash. Otherwise, I'd kill to look like her! Reply Jon 08/27/2012 22:59 This show gets worse with each passing episode. The fake pauses are getting longer and the dramatic music is getting louder. It's makin' me sick....just like Pawn Stars. Reply jeffrey Burrington link 08/29/2012 13:15 well....that's a bummer,i loved that show. those guys seemed so cool and kind to people. May revert to reading, most everything is kinda contrived anyway on the tube. I normally get tired of the repetiveness of things with most shows eventually. Follow me on Twitter: @RussellScott202 |

Reply Chaz 08/16/2012 16:14 I disagree with the article, I think out of all the shows in question American Pickers and to a lesser extent Pawn Stars are exactly as they appear. I never once heard the writer of the article mention the fact that both Mike Wolfe and Rick Harrison/Pawn Stars have eBay stores, in many cases selling the stuff they've picked/bought on the shows. Reply Jon 08/18/2012 06:26 Rip on the show if ya want but you went after Danielle like she kicked your dog. I got news for you, she is sexy as hell. And I bet if you took a poll across the U.S. the majority of America would agree. Reply Greg 08/18/2012 09:18 BS article, dudes a hater, not saying some of the things they say aren't scripted but they are currently in my hometown of Sackets Harbor, NY today and they are just two dudes in the very van we see on tv with a camera crew with them. Or if you saw something for 10 bucks and knew it was worth 100, u wouldn't buy it then turn around and sell it right away? You know you would. Who in their right mind wouldn't? Who's the "fake" one now??? |

Who was the original American picker?... You and I. The show offers good advice on how to "break the ice" ,bargain, salesmanship. The lessons are just a start, you need to figure out what sells and what doesn't. If you suck and buying shit and over value it than you will fail. I think the show has helped many people in these hard times develop an interest in self employment. |

Louve User ID: 49741515 United States 11/15/2013 09:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I used to watch the show occasionally. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't all that good either. Then in one episode, they found and bought an old leather license plate. I forget what they paid, a hundred bucks or so. Then they go to a car museum and meet with the awesome old guy who runs the place. They show him the plate and he is all smiles, gives them a lot of praise, etc. The two hosts then, in their great act of charity, offer the guy the plate to add to the collection...at a price slightly above what they paid for it! I thought, WTF? These guys were patting themselves on the back for being so generous. I guess their tag line stands..."anything to make a buck". I haven't watched it since (and don't miss it to be honest). "Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams, Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems." The spokes were gone the frame completely rusted through and missing in places and the handlebars were broke in half. It was a total piece of shit and the guy acted like he was drooling over it when the sly old man sold it to them for 250 bucks. It literally fell apart when they put in in the back of their van. I don't give a fuck if it was a Faberge' designed by Tiffany, it wasn't worth a quarter. Also , te rusted old motorcycle motors they bought were supposedly a big 'find' , but if a motor is rusted sold through it can't be rebuilt even if you could get the parts |
