Help me stockpile food
I have budgeted 500 for my food this upcomming month. I want to make it through the month comfortably and stockpile some food too.
I plan on buying a large bag of organic rice and organic beans from Costco as well as qunioa. What else should I get? I hope to spend 150 on saveable foods. I do not have a dehydrator or pressure cooker...

The problem with giving advice is that we don't know you. Are you a cook from scratch or call for take out kind of person? What kinds of foods do you like to eat? Do you have a place to store extra food, even under the bed.

Listed below are some food items that should be added

Honey never really goes bad. In a tomb in Egypt 3,000 years ago, honey was found and was still edible. If there are temperature fluctuations and sunlight, then the consistency and color can change. Many honey harvesters say that when honey crystallizes, then it can be re-heated and used just like fresh honey. Because of honey’s low water content, microorganisms do not like the environment.
Uses: curing, baking, medicinal, wine (mead)

Salt
Although salt is prone to absorbing moisture, it’s shelf life is indefinite.
Uses: curing, preservative, cooking, cleaning, medicinal, tanning hides

Sugar
Life would be so boring without sugar. Much like salt, sugar is also prone to absorbs moisture, but this problem can be eradicated by adding some rice granules into the storage container.

Wheat
Wheat is a major part of the diet for over 1/3 of the world.

Dried corn

Baking soda
This multi-purpose prep is a must have for long term storage.
Uses: teeth cleaner, household cleaner, dish cleaner, laundry detergent booster, leavening agent for baked goods, tarnish remover

Instant coffee, tea, and cocoa

Adding these to your long term storage will not only add a variety to just drinking water, but will also lift morale.

Non-carbonated beverages : vitamin water, Gatorade, juices, bottled water.

White rice is a major staple item that preppers like to put away because it’s a great source for calories, cheap and has a long shelf life. If properly stored this popular food staple can last 30 years or more.

Bouillon products
Because bouillon products contain large amounts of salt, the product is preserved. However, over time, the taste of the bouillon could be altered. If storing bouillon cubes, it would be best repackage them using a food sealer or sealed in mylar bags.
Uses: flavoring dishes

Powdered milk – in nitrogen packed cans
Powdered milk can last almost indefinitely, however if it turns a yellowish tint, it’s time to discard.

Spices Adding spices will keep the taste buds happy!

I dont stock a lot OP but I do try to have at least a couple months stuff on hand due to weather or natural disasters.
My way isnt right for everyone but its right for me.
I get everything that can be made easily.Canned foods with a variety.I either get instant rice or the pouches than are already cooked and just need to be warmed in the pack. When going through a disaster the last thing I want to be doing is trying to cook meals such as regular rice that takes time and heat especially if its hot weather.Bottle water.Instant drink mix in the single packets you just add to the water. Gatorade, canned meat like the little canned hams, tuna, potted meat, ham salad, etc.Box of crackers for when I run out of bread. The meals in the styro cups, raisins, paper plates, plastic forks.Toilet tissue, tin foil wrap, salt and pepper.
Thats just some of the things but I always get premade foods so I dont waste, time, energy, and water to eat.

get some junk food. when you are stressed out your body wants comfort food and will just about heave if all you feed it is beans and rice and 'nutritious' foods. get some chocolate, cookies, potato chips, hard candies etc.

Re: Help me stockpile food
Copy Canning.

Make your regular weeks grocery list. For every store-able item buy two (cans) instead of one.

If you repeat this for six months, you have built a six months supply of store-ables, without breaking the budget.

You get stuff you will use, as opposed to 100# of dried beans you sit in a box & have no idea how to cook. - Nothing against long term storage foods, but IMHO that comes after your basic six month stockpile.

Very bad choice. You should have gotten coconut oil instead. You cook with it... bake with it... make smoothies... use it for medicinal purposes... dry skin... hair, etc... the list goes on and on.

Re: Help me stockpile food
OP, whatever you do, don't buy anything you won't eat!
What do you normally eat, week after week?? Or monthly? Use that as a guide line, and work with it.

Do you drink coffee? Check.
Chicken, roast beef, corn beef? You can buy it in cans. Screw the MSG, you are wanting foods to get you through, including no power.
Pick out canned vegetables you enjoy! Only one or two? Make good choices.

Do you like rice? Brown is better, but if you don't like brown, buy white. It can be bought cheaper in bulk, not in those little flavored boxes. That's where spices come in.

Cgheck out the foods sold in big cantainers at the Emergency Foods places, and see what you can put together yourself, cheaper.

Any money leftover? Buy the meats to fill your freezer.

Just my opinion, but I wouldn't spend extra buying "organic". When TSHTF, organic isn't going to matter. Calories are the only thing that matters.

Use all the money to buy the most you can, think cheap and high calorie. Quantity, not quality.
