DEA Says Screw Private Property- They Take What They Want, Use What They Want

The DEA bribes this small trucking company's driver to work with them in drug stings, they use the company's truck without permission, and it all ends in a hail of gunfire. Aaaaand, the government doesn't want to replace the poor guy's truck, or compensate him for the danger he's now in from the drug cartels. UNBELIEVABLE AND OUTRAGEOUS. Every small business owner in America should read this.

Snip
The phone rang before sunrise. It woke Craig Patty, owner of a tiny North Texas trucking company, to vexing news about Truck 793 — a big red semi supposedly getting repairs in Houston.
“Your driver was shot in your truck,” said the caller, a business colleague. “Your truck was loaded with marijuana. He was shot eight times while sitting in the cab. Do you know anything about your driver hauling marijuana?”
“What did you say?” Patty recalled asking. “Could you please repeat that?”
The truck, it turned out, had been everywhere but in the repair shop.
Commandeered by one of his drivers, who was secretly working with federal agents, the truck had been hauling marijuana from the border as part of an undercover operation. And without Patty's knowledge, the Drug Enforcement Administration was paying his driver, Lawrence Chapa, to use the truck to bust traffickers.
At least 17 hours before that early-morning phone call, Chapa was shot dead in front of more than a dozen law enforcement officers — all of them taken by surprise by hijackers trying to steal the red Kenworth T600 truck and its load of pot.

It is true, the DEA got caught red-handed. And now they're gonna fight the guy to pay for replacing his $100,000 truck they hijacked? WTFFF!!

100% correct. When the rule of law is discarded, this is what you get. The State can take your property, ruin your property, ruin your business. Every small business owner should wake up and realize that THIS IS WHAT YOUR GOVERNMENT THINKS ABOUT SMALL BUSINESS- we are expendable and worthless unless we have some desirable property. This story is Fast and Furious with pot instead of guns.

I did the security at the DEA lab years ago in Dallas. I swear the guy that ran the place looked just like Donald Pleasence from the Bond film "You only live twice" minus the cat but made up for with a cool eye patch. He was awesome.

So, what can a small business do to protect themselves from this kind of thing? I run large commercial vehicles- I'd hate for the DEA to up and decide to commandeer one without even TELLING ME. How can you protect yourself?

Tracker on every rig, and every time it goes 'awol' or off route report as stolen and feed the tracking info to the police and your insurance company, let them take the fuckers to court, not only that if it is the feds, they'll get pissed off with the police turning up continuously and ruining their busts

Yet another example of how prohibition has a corrupting influence on the rule of law. When will people wake up and demand an end to this madness?

Let's look deeper into this and consider the following twisted logic on my part.

A clip from the same article might shed some light on the matter when you fold in what exactly he does with his trucks. He is involved in the fracking business.

Remember this:

In another clip from the same January 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle in which Barack Obama promised to bankrupt anyone foolish enough to build coal-burning power plants, he also made an interesting admission about his entire energy plan. Obama told the editors that his policies would make energy prices “skyrocket” as the energy industry passed along the exorbitant costs of his cap-and-trade policy

From the article in the thread:

His company, which hauls sand as part of hydraulic fracturing operations for oil and gas companies, was pushed near failure after the attack because the truck was knocked out of commission, he said.

In one word: Policy.

When I ran my company a few years ago I had a short list of "crash landings" - things an employee would have to do to get fired.

One of them was drinking on the job. Another was letting in investigators or federales without a warrant.

It's simple: work with the DEA, FBI, or ATF without company authorization and on company time - you get summarily fired. Encourage employees to be open with you regarding any overtures these federales make to them. Run it past your company attorney to make sure your policy passes state law as well.

I'm not saying that it is always bad to work with the federals. Once in a blue moon they actually might be doing good work and the moral thing is to work with them. Many times, however, they are looking to boost their stats (what the hell do you think Fast and Furious was all about??!!) or racking up a body count to justify their federal budget.
