I think this might have to do with the high number of c and m flares we have accumulated in the last week. Not to mention the lengthy stay of elevated proton charts. Add record temperatures, and you have the recipe for weak grids like India's and Pakistan's tripping up.

This high level of solar activity caused a tremendous power surge last year. As a number of m and x flares occurred within two weeks, it triggered San Diego's power outage.

If you look at the data from last year's blackout, you will see that the flares were sort of "pulsing", occurring every afternoon in California time.

This could be the case in India. We have the high solar activity. It would be interesting to see when all the big flares hit (afternoons in India?)

By the way, the official cause of last year's blackout was 1 maintenance worker cutting the wrong wire. Think about that, one guy can cut a wire and blackout 8 million. ;)

People look for the knockout, the big one, but sometimes it is the accumulation of energy on a system which causes its demise.
