Turkey Edges Toward Syria Invasion, Iran Threatens Response

The world is a couple of steps closer to a new Middle East war this morning.

Even as the bloodshed in Syria gets worse and government gunships and artillery pound rebel controlled neighborhoods in the country’s largest city, Turkey is moving closer to striking Syria, and Iran is threatening to respond.

Turkey has sent troops and missile batteries to its border with Syria as a precautionary measure, ratcheting up fears that the Syria’s mess may start spilling over its borders.

Saudi silence on intelligence chief Bandar’s fate denotes panic

Disquiet in Washington, Jerusalem and a row of Middle East capitals is gaining ground the longer the Saudi government stays silent on the reports of the assassination of the newly-appointed Saudi intelligence chief Prince Bandar bin Sultan, purportedly in a revenge operation by a Syrian intelligence death squad.

If true, it would shoot a devastating tentacle out from the Syrian conflict to the broader region.

It is widely feared that Saudi rulers are too traumatized to respond by the fear of Iranian penetration of the highest and most closely guarded circles of Saudi government, possibly climaxing in Bandar’s assassination.

The unconfirmed reports of his death attribute its motive to revenge by Iran and Syria for the bomb explosion five days earlier in Damascus which killed four of Bashar Assad’s top managers of his war on the uprising against his regime.

The prince, son of the late crown prince Sultan, has not been seen in public since Saudi General Intelligence headquarters in Riyadh was hit by a bomb blast Monday, July 23 killing his deputy, Mashaal al-Qarni.

There is a war going on inside Syria, why is their military only on "second highest alert"?

Because the FSA are much smaller than our media make them out to be.

This is probably going to be their last stand in Aleppo.

I know we have had and have troops at Karamursel Air Station. I'm not sure how many. I know we have had troops in country for some time, but I'm not sure how many or where.

Turks are looking to possibly use the Syrian situation to wipe the PKK out...last thing they want is the same seperartists that started shit back in the 80's getting a foothold in northern Syria...and apparently that is happening.

If the Turks make a move?...NATO could very well back them up...that would be the pretext to getting involved in this Syria bullshit.

US "troops" being there in some small numbers doesn't mean squat because Turkey is a NATO member.

This whole mess in Syria has a real chance of coming freakin unglued in a very bad way...and nothing good will come from it.

Revelations by a Dutch journalist who was held captive by anti- Syrian President Bashar al-Assad armed groups in the country show the terrorists are not Syrian people as western governments claim, and are rather foreign elements.

Dutchman Jeroen Oerlemans and British journalist John Cantlie were released on Thursday after being held by a group of Free Syrian Army members for a week.

Oerlemans told Dutch media after their release that some of the 30-to-100-strong Free Syrian Army gang, who arrested him and his colleague while crossing the border from south east Turkey near their camp, had "Birmingham accents".

The gang comprised at least six people with British accents including one with a heavy south London speech tone, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

Reports also said no Syrians were present in the terrorists’ camp where almost 40 percent spoke English while others were from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Chechnya.

The British Foreign Office has announced they will investigate the presence of British nationals among anti-Assad gangs.

This comes as Britain, the US, Israeli regime and some regional governments including Qatar and Saudi Arabia have been accused of providing arms and forces to Syrian terror groups.

Revelations earlier this year showed British and American spy agencies are providing full intelligence support to anti-Assad terror cells while separate disclosures told of Britain running covert operational centers in several locations in Syria and training terrorists.

In an article entitled "Syrian War of Lies and Hypocrisy", Robert Fisk noted that the war on Syria is a war of Western cowardice, mean morality, false rhetoric and public humiliation, and that the real aim behind such a war is Iran.
"I'm referring to the utter lies and mendacity of our masters and our own public opinion - eastern as well as western - in response to the slaughter, a vicious pantomime more worthy of Swiftian satire than Tolstoy or Shakespeare," Fisk wrote.

Highlighting US hypocrisy, he adds that at the time Qatar and Saudi Arabia arm and fund the rebels of Syria to overthrow Bashar al-Assad, Washington mutters not a word of criticism against them.
"President Barack Obama and his Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, say they want a democracy in Syria, but Qatar is an autocracy and Saudi Arabia is among the most pernicious of caliphate-kingly-dictatorships in the Arab world," Fisk wrote, also noting that "Saudi Arabia is an ally of the Salafist-Wahabi rebels in Syria, just as it was the most fervent supporter of the medieval Taliban during Afghanistan's dark ages."

Furthermore on Saudi autocracy, he noted "Indeed, 15 of the 19 hijacker-mass murderers of 11 September, 2001, came from Saudi Arabia - after which, of course, we bombed Afghanistan. The Saudis are repressing their own Shia minority just as they now wish to destroy the Alawite-Shia minority of Syria. And we believe Saudi Arabia wants to set up a democracy in Syria?"

From the United States, according to Fisk, "Clinton issues a "stern warning" to Assad. Panetta - the same man who repeated to the last US forces in Iraq that old lie about Saddam's connection to 9/11 - announces that things are."
As for Western political leaders, Fisk wrote "they are happy to condemn Arabs for their savagery but too timid to utter a word of the mildest criticism when the "Israeli" army commits crimes against humanity - or watches its allies do it in Lebanon - ordinary people have to remind the world that they are not as timid as the politicians."

Highlighting the ultimate truth about the big lie, he explains that the main goal behind such a war is Iran and the Western desire to crush the Islamic Republic and its so-called nuclear plans, if these exist.

His death has been confirmed, but how or why apparently is not being discussed...bomb attack is the seeming Mode so far and if that is true?...of course it's an assination.

THAT could be the single worst event with the most potential to push this thing over the cliff one way or the other so far. The whole Sunni vs Shia war could get hot with SA/pals Sunni on one team and Iran/pals and Shia on the other.

This has the potential to the world's most epic fail of foreign policy we have seen in very very long time. The entire Middle east is just coming unglued, if it becomes a regional war, even if it's not a full engagement war?...the entire world is going be fucked over hard.

I can verify that there are US forces inside Turkey.

I strongly suspect that they are located somewhere in or near that great big base you can see at night from Yerevan in Armenia - big lights off to the side of Mount Ararat. The big lights off to the other side of Ararat come from the Turkish base.

However, I also strongly suspect that the rest of this story, which comes from an unnamed Syrian official via Tel Aviv, is...

I think this is probably for real folks. I live within 40 miles of 3 major military bases here in Florida, and the massive training activity of the past few months has almost ceased in the past 3 or 4 days.
