BREAKING: Japan TEPCO utility gets $12.8 billion Fukushima bailout
SNIP:
"The Japanese operator of the nuclear power plant devastated in last year's disasters received a 1 trillion yen ($12.8 billion) bailout Tuesday, putting it under government ownership."

SNIP:
"A series of investigation reports, including one released earlier this month by a government-appointed panel, criticized cozy relationships among the government, regulators and TEPCO. The reports also blamed TEPCO for underestimating the tsunami risk faced by the Fukushima Dai-ichi plant despite a history of quakes in the region."

Re: BREAKING: Japan TEPCO utility gets $12.8 billion Fukushima bailout
SNIP:
"The panel said the government and TEPCO failed to prevent the disaster not because a large tsunami was unanticipated, but because they were reluctant to invest time, effort and money in protecting against a natural disaster considered unlikely. "The utility and regulatory bodies were overly confident that events beyond the scope of their assumptions would not occur . . . and were not aware that measures to avoid the worst situation were actually full of holes," the government panel said in its final report.TEPCO had even weighed in on a report about earthquake risk and asked the government to play down the likelihood of a tsunami in the region, the report said. The panel's report faulted an inadequate legal system for nuclear crisis management, a crisis-command disarray caused by the government and Tepco, and possible excess meddling on the part of the prime minister's office in the early stage of the crisis. The panel concluded that a culture of complacency about nuclear safety and poor crisis management led to the nuclear disaster."

SNIP:
"The nuclear crisis at the Fukushima Daiichi power plant in Japan was a "man-made disaster" that unfolded as a result of collusion between the facility's operator, regulators and the government."

SNIP:
"Its regulation was entrusted to the same government bureaucracy responsible for its promotion," the commission said.

absolute corruption. when the Oi nuke plant was restarted not too long ago, several fossil fuel plants have been shut down, resulting in a net power loss. And they continue to threaten the public that there will be not enough power.

Fukuichi Live Camera currently installed near the Administration Office Building at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Station has been offering real-time images of mainly Unit 1 and 2 since May 31, 2011. In response to the request from viewers and considering the progress of the cover installation for fuel removal at Unit 4, the camera location will be moved to near the Waste Sludge Temporary Storage Facility (on Unit 4 side). Starting from 11:00 AM on August 1 (planned)*, real-time images of Unit 4 side of the station will be provided.

* Images will be unavailable for about an hour from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on August 1 due to the switching.

Yes, yes TEPCO, since you bungled this up so badly, let us cut you a $12.8B check to help 'ease' the worry you feel.

What a crock of shit. How about cutting the average guy a BREAK AND a $12.8B check!

Big business and government are virtually indistigishable in Japan anyway.

The same kind of corporatist agenda that is underway in America (i.e., Obama making General Motors a government gig) is much more advanced in Japan.

At ~12:00 in

Arnold Gundersen, Nuclear Engineer: At Reactor 2… the conclusion is that fine pieces of nuclear fuel have escaped the containment and are lying as a powder on the bottom of the torus room.
At ~14:00 in

Gundersen: The particles escaped the torus… that’s what’s fascinating… these are outside containment… it’s quite clear that the junction between the torus and the dry part of the containment failed.

At ~13:15 in

Arnold Gundersen, Nuclear Engineer: So I think they get to the point where they throw some concrete down on the top of it and come back in 300 years… This is not something I can figure out how one would clean up… 300, 400, 500 years.

They should have taken ownership from the start and wound it up according to the numbers and their own statutes, this is another horrific example of corruption.

TEPCO was heavily leveraged to banks, absolutely enormous long-term loans (capital investment in nuclear plant). The government is attempting to repay those loans. "Too big to fail".

What should actually happen is the company should be wound up with all loans naturally defaulted on. But that doesn't happen in a banker-corrupted system.

@ Canada ...575,
there is not one Posting from me where
i said "There is no Melt-Down",
there is also not one Posting where i wrote
"There is no Contamination"!

There is also not one Posting from me
with the Message "There will be no harm

And you can't turn this around.

All i am writing is that we need to be realistic,

"The Japanese government will strengthen cooperation with other countries to effectively develop and carry out strategies for nuclear safety, decommissioning and decontamination. It will set up a bilateral commission with each of the governments of the United States, the United Kingdom and other countries

The Japanese government hopes that this will facilitate smooth operation of the decommissioning of the Fukushima I nuclear power station

The Japanese government convened the first commission meeting with the U.S. on July 24 in Tokyo."

so let me get this straight.. you contaminate countless people in other countries, and your own, through inept operations and get a gubernment (tax payer) bail out of that amount.. to provide less than your agreed contract?

where do we sign up... at the international court for war crimes?
