It wouldn't take the FCC long to track down any unauthorized transmission of a certain range of frequencies. AND...they do sell cellphone jammers on the internet which have a limited range.

REFERENCE...From 2008....

... the[Empire State] building has regained its status as the leading transmission site for commercial broadcast outfits, with 13 TV and 19 FM stations mounting antennas on its spire.

The Empire State Building Co., which refused to provide the Daily News a list of its antennas, denied it has created any “adverse impact” on automobiles.
“If the claim were indeed true, the streets in the vicinity of the building would be constantly littered with disabled vehicles,” the building’s owner said.

According to many doormen in the area, they often are.

“They park here on the block and when they come back and try to leave, they can’t start their cars,” said Martin Deda, a doorman at 16 Park Ave., which fronts E. 35th St.

“I’ve seen a lot of cars get towed away,” said a doorman at 35 E. 35th St. who gave only his first name, Joseph. “I see it all the time, at least 10 times a week ... I call it the ‘Empire State Building Effect.’”

There was a 20/20 type show of a tech nerd unleashed into a junk yard, He assembled a signal wave scrambler from parts and he stalled cars under the overpass. It was cars driven by volunteers and the road section was closed to do the test

But it was scary, He predicted it would be used for a type of terrorism to stall the vehicles..

Here's a wierd one.

Got a few spherical magnets. They look like ball bearings and when you roll them across a flat surface, they follow the magnetic lines of the earth.

Similar to the magnet this guy has.

But, recently when I roll it around, instead of curving gently towards or away from the N-S ploes, it goes mad and spins in spirals, backwards and forward.

Weird. They never reacted so much before.

Almost as if the earth's field is more concentrated.

Fancy cars don't use door keys anymore. They have the fancy push start or some are like a "fob" where u just need to be in the car With the key in your pocket to drive. Usually the real key is left in the manual in the glove box.

The push button start part of this video is BS. Either they insert the fob in the same place where a non-hands-free key would go. Or in some newer cars you hold the fob next to some area. On new BMWs this is on the right side of the steering column - even has a little diagram. Really used for when the fob's battery is dead.

Same goes for any newer car with a standard key - it most likely has an embedded chip that the key ring reads. Same concept as the non-hands-free fob backup.

No people aren't stupid, jackass, a lot of cars don't use the manual key entry as a main method for entry and use, most people don't carry those type of keys anymore. Now that might be stupid, but in that case, so is everything else regarding technology.

Re: New yorkers cant start thier cars or unlock them
Saw an article very recently that this occured in the Uk too. The reason given was it was a solar panel in the area giving off 'signals'...

I'm personally sceptical about that reason - (i have solar panels and an output reader) but hey someone might be able to shed light on why a solar panel would emit different frequencies which would in turn affect SOME cars...and not others...?

My mother in law and friend - both in the same week about a fortnight ago also talked about their cars 'locking themselves'.

IMO - It's those sun tubes...hitting the ground every 8 seconds...that nasa reported about last year...they must be inducing a mini type of carrington event on cars.

Indicating this is just the start of the fun n games! wait until the sun maxes out and the magnetosphere gives in!

Woooohoooooo!! All our technology will be useless then! LOL

I've never seen a case where a backup key is not integrated into the fob. Main use is if the battery in the fob is dead. Also used if the car battery is dead (so it can be changed/charged).

I'll also add the same 'sun tubes' are the cause of the electrocutions in water of people recently...and mass bird/animal deaths. Just a theory...coupled with an intuitive hunch.
