How Does One file a COMPLAINT about one's local POST OFFICE?
My local post office is giving me a hard time. I can't find a chain of command to complain against the local postmaster.

anyone know if their is a regional postmaster and, if so, how do you find out how to contact him?

I'm a mail carrier in CA. You're going to want to call the USPS Consumer Affairs office for your area. You should be able to search for that on the net.

yeah, i'll probably end up talking to a CUSTOMER CARE SPECIALIST in BANGLORE.

With the power outages over there, they probably won't be in a mood to help.

I already scoured the usps website and its a waste of time. I need the man or woman responsible for this stinking operation.

If my mail is being thrown away and not delivered, some asshole should be in front of a judge. You think thats going to happen from the CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT?

Consumer Affairs, if you've never spoken to them, is actually very helpful to the customers.
If you can't find the number call 1-800-ASK-USPS, it's automated, but they do have live people to talk to as well. You can tell them you need to speak with someone in the consumer affairs dept. and they will give you the right number. As far as my office goes, if someone calls with a complaint they are far more likely to be taken seriously if they don't act like a jerk and accuse the mail carrier or whoever of tossing their mail out. Even if you suspect it. Just saying...

Re: How Does One file a COMPLAINT about one's local POST OFFICE?
My rural post office was opening my mail. Not all the mail, just mail that was sensitive and private like from a law firm and others.

I complained to usps and they investigated themselves and said no problem here. So there you have it. The post office I complained about investigated itself.

I later on after the investigation get a computer sent to me and the box was opened. I go to the girl at the desk, who opened this. From the back out steps the post master and she says I did.

I knew than who was tampering with my mail. Why was my mail being opened and looked at by the postmaster.

Believe me, it doesn't do any good. I have found my mail in the yard, in bushes. I have had a letter put in my mailbox for someone across town. When I went there to complain, I was told they would take care of it. They took the mailman offender off the route a few days, then put him right back on. I have went in person 3 times, because they are not in the phone book. I mean, we have our house number over our garage, and on the mailbox by the door. How hard is it to get a letter to the right house?

ok, well, if someone was rifling through YOUR private shit, you might react as well. Figures a government drone would assume the CUSTOMER was being a jerk.

One of my several complaints was to an old krone at the window. She told me on the QT that the post office was using temp workers to do the back room sorting and that they were complete fuckups. She said they had received numerous complaints since the temps had begun but that the local postmaster couldn't do anything about it since it was a national decision. Apparently the POST OFFICE is bleeding money and they decided to take it out on the customers by not replacing retired workers with full time jobs.

The postmaster denied there was a problem. The old krone was unhappy about the situation but said she was afraid to speak up.

You ever take a step back and wonder if you would like to deal with someone like you? You call people names and say your mail is being thrown away rather than wondering if maybe you're just not getting anything 'good' right now.

All of you who think that delivering mail is just matching up numbers, have probably never handled mail aside from their own. When you have over 750 mail boxes with similar yet slightly different address and a time limit to deliver it all, you're going to fuck up.

If I KNEW for a FACT that my carrier was going through my personal shit, yeah, I'd be pissed. You however, have not proved in anyway that you KNOW your mail is being gone through. YOU ASSUME. I'm not assuming you're a jerk.
I thought maybe you might appreciate some help in who would be most benifical for you to contact and was met with attitude right off the bat. Take it from a "government drone" your problem won't be solved if you can't get around the idea that MAYBE YOU are wrong.

Obviously.

Go look for yourself. The SYSTEM is set up to shunt those with legitimate complaints off to a maze designed to waste time and make the majority of those entering give up in frustration. If the local postmaster can't resolve a problem like MAIL TAMPERING, then maybe the regional MANAGERS should be getting involved. Go ahead and show me how one contacts them.

On second thought, ms lifelong letter carrier, don't bother. You live in a world of governmental handouts and no competition union jobs. No wonder the post office is flat assed bankrupt.

d was met with attitude right off the bat. Take it from a "government drone" your problem won't be solved if you can't get around the idea that MAYBE YOU are wrong.

Yeah, well, go fuck yourself.

It's morans like YOU that run fucked up businesses like the USPS.

I do know for a fact, and it's a LONG LIST...but you aren't worth the time to type it out.

As for your advice, it was worthless as well. ANyone can recommend CUSTOMER SERVICE or looking at the website...which is the first thing I did.

But don't worry. the taxpayuers will bail out your underfunded pensions.

asshole

Re: How Does One file a COMPLAINT about one's local POST OFFICE?
Some post offices are not even owned by the USPS. I found this out when i got a po box in Dolan Springs, AZ. They are the nastiest postal workers ever! The woman who runs it acts like she owns the mail. When I complained to the supervisor at the Kingman, AZ Post Office, he said that the Dolan Springs Post Office is not owned by the USPS but by the crazy woman who runs it. He then suggested I take a PO Box elsewhere since there is really nothing anyone can do.
