I used to "follow" the sun behind my neighbours chimney when it set, now it goes way past my neighbours chimney. It also seems to rise more to the North east - but that could be seasons, after all I live in Denmark. Norway, where I come from, sun barely sets in the summertime. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21053011 Do you realise how silly it sounds when you say the Sun has moved! Ok I will admit that saying "the sun has moved" sounds silly. I mean it figuratively of course, in that it appears to have moved - or is in a different location - than same time years prior. I understand that it is more likely the Earth changing its axis or perhaps a perturbation in the ecliptic. I'm not of a simple mind, I just like to explain things simply. As for eclipse times, NASA has the ability to make adjustments to their models without having to check with you. Scientists have concurred that things are not as constant and absolute in space as was once assumed. The next Solar eclipse in is November. [link to eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov] The largest uncertainty in the eclipse predictions is caused by fluctuations in Earth's rotation due primarily to tidal friction of the Moon. The resultant drift in apparent clock time is expressed as ΔT and is determined as follows: [link to eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov] |

Yes, i live along the gulf coast and i go watch the sun set each evening on the bay and i can tell you, it has definitely moved to the north. Where the sun used to set over the water, it sets now over a little island now in the evenings. I noticed this happening about 2 yrs ago and thought it was very odd. From where it used to set to where it sets now is a good distance too, and i'd guess its about 25 degrees more north now! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 9718093 United States 08/01/2012 10:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My computer is in the corner of the kitchen at an east-facing 4'x6' window. Until this year I had to close the blinds in the mornings to see the screen. The sun always rose over the house directly across the street, but now it rises further to the north and is blocked by trees. There are two doors in the living room leading to a west-facing deck. In the past, when the sun was setting, it would shine in the door on the south end of the living room and now it shines in the one on the north end. I've lived here since 1987 and I know it's changed. |

You wouldn't notice this using gps, since they adjust the coordinates all the time to keep up. The only way people are going to notice it is things like this, the sun and possibly moon & stars, not appearing in their proper hard locations on the horizons. |

Quoting: TBar1984 That theoretical change is NOTHING compared to the constant change that happens EVERYDAY. There has ALWAYS been much more change EVERYDAY than the non-measurable values calculated from those Earthquakes. "This could be observed as a step in the so-called excitation function, deduced from the determination of pole coordinates by space geodesy. But such a step could be hardly discernible from common hydro-meteorological processes...According to the seismic models, the recent Chile event will have the effect of disturbing the rotation pole by 8 cm in some months, small amount in comparison with the path a few meters it will achieve during this period. By handling atmospheric, oceanic and hydrologic data, this path will be modelled with a mean error of 50 cm, so that the tiny seismic effect will probably remain undiscernible. The Chile earthquake, would also have decrease the length of day, as high as 2 microseconds, that is to say below the current error on this quantity (10 microseconds), and much lower than the daily variation sometimes coming to 50 microseconds, and mainly caused by winds..." [link to hpiers.obspm.fr] 'non-measurable values calculated from those Earthquakes.' So.. you are saying this report from NASA is bullshit.. [link to content.usatoday.com] [snip] The 9.0 magnitude earthquake that ravaged Japan also shortened Earth's day by just over one-millionth of a second (1.8 microseconds to be exact), according to NASA. It also shifted the Earth's axis by about 6.5 inches. ~ Either way.. you didn't answer the question. I think you might be full of shit.. ~ No thinking about it, you ARE full of shit. Can't find it here [link to hpiers.obspm.fr] Chile? Can't see it [link to hpiers.obspm.fr] Looks normal on the streets as well [link to www.nydailynews.com] You probably think a THEORETICAL Planet is real too. Why can't we see these Theoretical Planets? What? You mean someone just calculated the Planet and you can't really see it? Who'd a thunk it... I suppose you think that by attributing some fantasy belief to me, with zero evidence of same, makes me look foolish..? I asked you to explain how a scientifically acknowledged tilt in the earth's axis means that it has zero effect on the alignment of a telescope. You responded with a statement that it was a non-measurable value. I provided a link to an article with a statement from NASA that the earth had changed its axis by 6.5 inches... Sounds like a measurable value to me. Get a ruler and look at the little marks on it. And I'm full of shit..? Note that I said you 'might' be full of shit.. giving you the benefit of the doubt. You have removed all doubt. I guess the visible universe shifted along with the earth, retaining the original aspect. My point is that a miniscule shift in the earth's axis would be a large shift in perspective.. ratio of difference[or deviance]from previous position increases when factored with increasing distance from source.. negligible to the naked eye. Which would lead one to surmise that 6.5 inches is a false statement since it CAN be noticed with the naked eye. Thanks for helping me work that out. ~ The poster, for whatever reason, neglected a response... |

The more we take notice the more science will have to take notice (I think they have already anyways) and ultimately disclose the facts to us once and for all. I hate being treated like a mushroom. Let's bring this issue out in the open and shed some light on it, finally, pun totally intended.
