Why not as dark last night as usual?

Location Niagara Falls NY, so its about 2am and my daughters looking out my bedroom window and says look mom why isnt it as dark as usual outside? so i look out the screen and i can see everything in the backyard,now at 2am its always pitch black outside,cant even see your hand in front of your face,need a flashlight,this reminded me of just past twilight when its dark buut you can still make things out,we could see the garage windows,the grill,the lawn chairs,even make out the plants and bushes, i dont have a good view of the sky back there,too many trees and houses,but obviousely the sun wasnt out at 2am,does anyone know or have experienced this what could cause it? also normally when stars are out its still pitch black back there
