But I think it's more common than you think.
Lots of women treat their men like little boys...even to the point of joking like they have an adult child. It's beyond disrespectful to a man (I think) to treat them like that.

But...in all fairness...some men act like little boys.

Theres tons of females on here...

My ex tried to wear the pants in the family and found herself homeless...years later she remarried and tried it with him and he moved out...some bitches don't learn I guess...I suppose there's extremes on both sides of the spectrum...

By "mother", what do you mean?

I do make the meals, and I do send him off with food in hand for his lunch at work. I sometimes do feel like that's kind of 'motherly' and I do joke around that I have to 'feed the kids'. But then again, he jokes about it, too.

I pick up his clothes off of the floor. Should I cease, since this is also a motherly activity?

Some of these terms are very vague.

Perhaps if you explain, we can better answer the question. The lines have become so blurry about what's okay to do and what isn't. I mean, should I quit cooking and cleaning up after him and tell him to grow up? But then I have to live with the dirty clothes lying about.

I cook the meals from scratch. He makes his own lunch. I do the yard work because I love working in the yard and as he was raised in apartments up north and I was raised down south around farms, I figure I'm the best one to do it.

I do the laundry, but he doesn't leave clothes on the floor - he puts what needs washing in the basket.

He works 3 part-time jobs (music gigs, voice overs and musical instrument repair -- our 40ish retirement) and I work one (outdoors).

I clean the house, but he works more than I do, but every now and again he'll wash dishes, clean the kitchen and mop the floor.

I feel pretty pampered most times.

But I'll admit, we're an odd couple.

If my car has trouble - he'll tend to the fixing of it and so goes anything in the house. He pays the bills and I don't worry about money.

I don't think I mother him.

I'm not married anymore but when I was I don't think I mothered him.

To be honest, I served him. Whatever he wanted he got, the second he wanted it. I made no objections to anything he wanted to do, to anywhere he wanted to go. He didn't get lectures or scoldings.

It's obvious that every situation is different...I was married for 14 years...and now am divorced so I realize I've no grounds to speak on the topic, but I can only hope to have problems like this again someday.

But I still want married folks to be happy...

Sounds to me like Suite101 is intentionally intermingling traditional roles with nagging and hateful behavior... thus demonizing both.

I'll be sure to let my husband know that me washing his clothes and putting them away in an organized manner is "stealing his independence". I'm sure he'll demand that I cease and desist this terrible behavior immediately.

If I left my man to pick up laundry and organize his drawers it would never get done. Men couldn't give two shits about cleaning or organizing. Those things require a woman's touch suite101 can kiss my ass. Just my two cents

The wonders of married life... I was surprised to see how many articles there are about that topic actually.
I googled "mothering a husband" and if you skim thru a majority of the articles they're mostly about the the villification of a womans instinct to nurture something...

Whether it be a spouse, friend, what ever....

It's contrary to what women are by nature...caretakers...

Now, keep in mind I'm generalizing...of course.

That's why so many women go after the losers...they want that three legged sick puppy to take care of and nurse back to health...but when she realizes she will never change him into a decent person the "relationship" falls apart...

I think only a small population of women actually are like that...I think they may do it because if they are busy putting someone else back together they have an excuse to fall apart themselves...kind of an avoidance thing?

I hope so...my sisters did it though...but they didn't have emotional problems or anything, they just chose the wrong guys like I described...their kids turned out great because they raised them properly...and we have a huge family and they had lots of help when needed.

Holy shit, if making lunches and picking up clothes are all it takes to be "the best bunch of wives" you've ever come across, you seriously need to get the fuck out more!

What I was getting at is that you all have said that you each treat your husbands the best, accordingly.

Hell no. I have two kids to raise already. He does his own laundry and can pack his own damn lunch if he wants one.

I prefer to eat out anyway
