Re: DOOM? You want DOOM??? This time next year, beef will be too expensive to eat.
Food supplies across the country – for animals and humans – are literally drying up.

This will undoubtedly lead to significant food price increases across the entire spectrum of the American diet – meat, grain, dairy, vegetables and fruit.

Tom Chatham of Project Chesapeake writes:

Corn and soybean meal are staples in animal feed and the rising prices and drought conditions are forcing farmers and ranchers to sell off their herds for slaughter. This will cause a glut in the market over the short term and you may see lower meat prices as a result but this will only be temporary. By next year the prices of meat will rise as the supply of livestock reaches multi decade lows. Supply and demand will push prices higher as a result.

Larry Pope, chief executive of Smithfield Foods has recently given a dire warning. “Beef is simply going to be too expensive to eat. Pork is not going to be too far behind. Chicken is catching up fast.”

If you don't eat that factory raised corn fed genetically altered antibiotic fed trash pile beef that Wal Mart convinces people is "good" you'll still be able to get beef. Go find a real local farm that feeds cows GRASS, the food they were meant to eat, and you'll find beef. Granted it might cost $30 a pound by that point, but you should be eating it now, unless you like cancer, ecoli and god knows what else.

U ppl dont understand what this means

FAMINE is coming in 2013

No Beef means no dairy

No Corn means no corn filled products AKA everything

NO soybean means no TOFU or prefab vegetarian stuff

If you are not growing the basics of potatoes and beans squash and other things that keep a LONG time you will be HUNGRY/starve

This is how they will win because starving people are desperate and you cant fight on an empty stomach

oldest tactic in the world

Corn and other grains are used as food supplements for animals. The US government has been paying Archer Daniels Midland 6 Billion dollar a year to turn perfectly good corn into fuel. Last year we burned more corn than we fed to animals. This should be in the dictionary under the definition of insanity since the full cycle CO2 from ethanol is about the same as oil. We have a requirement that 10% of gas is ethanol.

We have doubled the price of some food staples because we are burning a significant part of what we produce. This the part of the reason the Middle East is restless - Egypt was mostly a food riot.

Fuel is some you drill out of the ground not something you steal from an animal's feed trough.

Start collecting nuts, like acorns. They are not very tasty but they are a great source of protein and the "good" fat your brain needs. Just ask your local deer and squirrels! If you are going to have to be on a "bean and rice diet", the good things in nuts can offset what your body will be needing/craving.

This has me more concerned than any other "doomsday" scenario. Droughts are real and the repercussions of them are far reaching and painful. I am sure we will pull through it, but the more you can do for yourself, the less painful the grocery bill will be.

Just a thought.

Nahhh.

Farmers will opt to slaughter their cattle (cheaper) rather than feeding them. Market will initially be flooded with beef - more than we can possibly imagine.

Over supply will drive the market down . What can't be sold and eaten in the form of fresh cuts, will be processed into all sorts of preserved, bad for you shite. There will be beef aplenty for people who want too eat hot dogs, corned beef, and pastrami.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1429977

yeah, and if USDA allows us to go back to grinding up spleens to redden the meat it will be sold as "less than 15% fat" when in actuality it will be more like "less than 65% fat" <wink> christ, if the American public ever knew how butchers in American markets operated- back in the 1970s - butchers would have been sentenced to life imprisonment for what they got buy with.

we'll see if Bechtel doesn't start cloning atomic radiation livestock the size of dinosaurs.

we've already got Japanese irradiated sea monsters so, we'll just have to get some cowboys whom know how to throw a lassoe 'round 'em while riding jet skis and we'll have plenty of canned "Monster of the Sea" on supermarket shelves by January 2013 !

careful with those acorns. Get rid of the tannins first by all means!

btw, acorn pancakes would be amazing to try I have not gotten around to that though

Acorns contain carbohydrates, protein, amino acids, vitamins, minerals and even fat. Although they must be prepared to eat, they are an indispensable part of a wilderness diet. The native Americans would harvest the acorns to help them pass the winters.

Acorns have the advantage of being a food source that can be stored. Acorn fat can cause the acorns to get moldy or rotten.

Preparation: Tannin should be removed from the acorns. Reducing the tannic acid from the acorns by soaking them will make them more palatable and less toxic. Some people soak the acorns a process called leaching. Others grind the acorns into flour and then treating it with hot water. Finally boiling the acorns is suggested for rapid removal of the tannins. We soaked the acorns for three days after peeling the outer shell.

The human body uses glucuronidation to make a large variety of substances more water-soluble, and, in this way, allow for their subsequent elimination from the body upon urination.]

We peeled the shell of acorns to find that at this time of the year the acrons can be covered in mold. After peeling the skin and scraping the mold from the top, we put the acorn in water to leach the tanic acid out of them. After a few hours the water looked like this:

We want to avoid eating the tannin because it could cause digestive problems. When the Native Americans would prepare the acorns, they would put them in running water for days. Some people use the boiling method. We will be doing more testing. We ate an acorn before leaching the tannin out of it. Since they are moldy, they were chewy and the tannic acid caused a bitter taste. Overall the taste was that of a nut.
Most sources say that white oak acorns have the least amount tannic acid in them. This set of acorns was not very bitter but we still allowed the acorns to sit in water for three days. Changing the water periodically.
Some people say to use a boiling to speed up the process. We will research different ways of removing the tannin from the acorns and include them on the article.

Yah, we used to put a yearling steer in the freezer every year. That is good eating - so is venison.

It seems like fresh meat, vegetables or fruit are a lot taster than what comes from the store.

i enjoyed your post. i would, however like to add the percentage of bio-corn ethanol additive amounts ( in U. S. America gasoline ) varies from state to state, e.g. State of Pennsylvania ethanol being no more than 15% but at-least Pennsylvania requires each gasoline station pump to have a large sticker reading, "Contains No More Than 15% Ethanol" - we're 'not talking' about "Flex Fuel" that some gasoline service stations are additionally selling, e.g. State of California, however the State of California does 'not require ethanol percentage amount gasoline additives to notify any of the general public buying gasoline' anywhere within that entire state!

for all Californians know, they could be paying for 40% ethanol at gasoline stations, e.g. ARCO, USA and Thrifty, and chances are that could be the reason why so many car owners nowadays are by far more easily experiencing poor performance when purchasing less expensive gasoline from these cut rate gas stations buying gasoline from Venezuela's Caesar Chavez in-addition to major brand U.S. oil refineries selling their gasolone but with a much higher ethanol content.

thanks for ypur brain stimulatong post.

According to sources that I just looked up, the adult human needs approx. 185 grams of protien per day. An ounce of raw acorns provides between 1.744 grams of protien (for raw) and 2.296 grams (when dried)of protien. Please tell us what else we can do for protien besdies gathering six pounds of acorns a day.

Yes, lose a few pounds ha ha, good way to make light of the situation.

Starvation isn't just a few pounds, and soon enough you'll eat whatever your spoiled little ass can rustle up to put in the pot.

People are going to starve to death. This year is worse than last, what if this isn't a fluke, but just the start of a much worse trend. What if next year it's worse, and the year after even more so.

Good luck.

Are you scared? Some make light because they're ready for death, not afraid. This is all an illusion, a game. Since you will definitely die one day...you too will understand.
