No God - No Atheists
"If there were no God, there would be no atheists." –G.K. Chesterton

"That's stupid!" you might say.

"Not true," says I. This statement in and of itself, provides proof for the existence of God. I know that if you are a non-believer, you will instantly dismiss this quote. Your beliefs are quite firm after all and what can shake them? You question the existence of God but you don't really want an answer. An answer will prove you wrong. However if you are willing to read on I think you'll find that the question of rather or not God exists isnt one of fact or fiction. Its true, and I will show how simply using this quote.

I should put this quote into a different perspective. Here is one of the same theme by C. S. Lewis...."If the whole universe has no meaning, we should never have found that it has no meaning: just as, if there were no light in the universe and therefore no creatures with eyes, we should never know it was dark."

The view behind this is simple: If there wasn't a God, than we would have never thought that there was one.

I'm sure you can agree that the majority of the world believes in the existence of at least one god. According to 2011 statistics, Christianity has over 2 billion followers, its second rival, Islam, with just over 1 billion. If you research into major beliefs of the world, atheism is not even listed. As of 1994, in fact, atheism only accounted for 4% of the world's population. So I believe we can deduce that the general consensus of the world, and throughout history, is that there is a God. (We'll focus on Christianity here, rather than exploring other religious views and why they are misled. That's for another time.)

So, if you are a non-believer, or an atheist, then you think we Christians are all just silly, correct? But in fact, your belief alone proves there is a God. If there wasn't, than you wouldn't be sitting here denying it.

Let's take a spin off of the above Lewis quote. Let's there's a world that is completely dark. There is not light whatsoever, and there never has been. Do you think that the inhabitants of that world would realize that they lived in a world of darkness? Do you think one of them would be walking around proclaiming "Somewhere out there, there is light!"

Of course not. There is not light to them. Their world is entirely made of darkness and has always been that way. How should they know there is light, if there never has been any?

Here's another example: horses and Native Americans. Europe had horses, but the Americas didn't. Do you think there were Natives walking around saying that they wish they could meet a horse? Of course not! They didn't even know a horse existed, because in their world, horses didn't exist.

In a similar fashion, Christopher Columbus and all those European sailors had no idea there were the Americas over there. They were just trying to find a route to China, correct? They didn't know that land existed, therefore, it didn't exist.
Do you see a pattern here? If we were all just "accidents" that "evolved" and there really isn't a God, than how should we ever invent the concept of a God?

"Preposterous," you say. "That's simple. Humans invented the concept of a god to explain things they had no reasoning for."

Actually, using that argument further proves the existence of God. Yes, ancient cultures came up with belief systems of a god or many gods to explain the happenings of the world around them. But where did this notion originally come from? If we all originated from the same two people, Adam and Eve, who knew God and whose descendents knew God, then isn't it plausible that that knowledge has forever stayed with us? That all these other religions come from the realization that there is such a thing as God?

"Pish posh," you say. "Then where did atheism come from?"

Atheism has stemmed from people believing that they had all the answers themselves, that they were responsible for all their own accomplishments, and that humans reign supreme. It is the effort to disprove the existence of God. And it is ironic because, by atheism's own existence, it proves that there is a God.
So summary (yep, kept this short and sweet!):

If there really was no such thing as God, then where did we get such an idea?

No atheist I know of is trying to prove there is not a God.
The burden of proving the existence of a God rests on Theists.

What you don't understand.. is those who are NOT theists...what you call atheists... don't "believe". What is termed to be Atheism, is not a belief. It's the absence of having a belief in a God.

Most 'atheists' I know may have been religious at one time, some devoutly religious. But with furthering their education, many came to realize there was nothing to prove what was written in scriptures, all which have no known authors, no signatures to any of them.

Do you understand the definition of 'belief'? It doesn't mean you know something, and so you've decided to accept something which has no basis of fact.

I suggest you spend some time watching 'the Atheist Experience' on YouTube. It is very well organized, they hold a live TV show weekly and the have a channel on YouTube. You would learn more about what the atheist experience really is.

"If there were no God, there would be no atheists." –G.K. Chesterton
 Quoting: CSGod 21257633

"No atheist" is a tricky double negative... The inverse of the quote above would read something like this -

"If there were a God, there would be no believers."

Seem illogical? His original statement is in the same ball park.

The quote would have some validity of it was something along the lines of... If there were not those who believed in 'anthropomorphic super natural deities hanging out in the sky', then there would be no need to label those who didn't believe in 'anthropomorphic super natural deities hanging out in the sky'. I couldn't agree more - good job G.K. Chesterton

The fact that people believe in a god, any god, does not mean it exists. It means they believe in a mythical creature invented by people of darker, less enlightened ages to explain things that we are finding new ways to explain today like science.

Why does 'god' not present himself and in so doing put the whole 'god-no god' thing to'rest?
We all know the answer to that one, now don't we? :-)

What's really nuts about the whole thing as I've pointed out before is that christians are atheists too if they deny the existence of allah, thor, mercury or any of the other gods.
But of course...the christians have the true god all wrapped up for themselves!
You guys are funny. Sick and twisted, but funny. Have fun worshipping the god you choose and just pray he's the right one and that one of the other one's isn't a jealous bastard ;-)

We are by nature inquisitive, and trying to fathom the religious mind is quite interesting.
Other than that we sometimes feel obligated to at least attempt to do our part in halting the contagion of mindlesness that christianity is.
If we simply sat silently by while the religious nutbags instituted laws based on their 'morality' we'd all be fucked and god wouldn't intervene and say 'Not in my name!'
We would be subjected to all your imaginary bullshit masquerading as truth and all the while dear old mr.god would do what he's always done...

Quick question!
Does god quote the bible in heaven when addressing the saved, or is that not required as all the saved believe every word anyway?

I agree. If one is participating in a discussion, it is generally a good idea to back up statements with cogent argument. What we have here is statement making and name calling. He started very well with an argument that presented the possibility of counter argument, but the responses he got were unreasoned opinion. I suspect that his angry outburst is a reaction to an unreasoned and specious response that did not in any way address his original postulate.

Re: No God - No Atheists
I prefer the interpretation where everything is literally God, one being.

What about one non-being? Being is the opposite of.

One being was educated at a young age, to believe that the body was separate from outer and inner subjects and objects. And, that is illusion. It was educated to believe it is the body, and to function in time-space. Lies, Lies. The One being is timeless not bonded to anything. It is as it is. There is that of duality of concepts, but they don't make up what you are. Words are Energy. God is Energy-frequencies of everything and nothing.

Try not to 'think' about it to much. Than the mind body isn't playing the victim or victimizer. Education system was there to snap you out of attachments-suffering-desires to 'this or that'. Before we could think, duality concepts didn't exist.
Allow Life to Live without Thinking to much whether it's good-bad for this separate 'me', 'I', 'they', 'them', 'us', etc. lol
