I'm angry, what a fucked up world this is. I just heard about the shooting in the states. I know kids are dying all over the world every day from hunger and violence. Is it ever going to get better, or what?

Bring on the doom, time to clean this place up if you ask me

Re: It's hard not to stumble into your ego
Ego is a good thing, for those with self-awareness.

People like Bill Hicks, Frank Zappa, Tenacious D....all used their egos in a positive and uplifting fashion.

New agers lose their souls in the process of 'shedding their ego.' It's like they all become part of a humorless hive mind, a droning husk. It's good to laugh and feel human some times, people...ego isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's all about HOW you utilize the ego, and HOW AWARE you are of what you're doing with it.

Hicks was actually wicked on a guitar. All around talented dude.

Frank Zappa, meanwhile, served Tipper Gore in the name of freedom of speech, called out the US government for falling into a fascist theocracy on Crossfire well before anyone else, and made some of the most interesting and unique music of all-time. Another brilliant thinker.

And Tenacious D are just fucking awesome :B Really talented musicians, amazing satirists, and some of the best hooks in modern music. (Jack Black is a BEAST on vocals.)

Just the first three quick examples that popped in my mind when thinking of people who used their egos in a positive fashion. I think, when used correctly, ego is developed into an alter-ego as a means of 'airing dirty spiritual laundry.'

Basically, we're all going to give off negative energies, have negative thoughts, get angry and upset....it's a part of life and the human condition. Regulating these things to an alter-ego - like doing stand-up comedy or writing funny rants...perhaps channeling anger to painting or digital art....perhaps channeling rage into the composition of a song....all that is beneficial and positive. Harnessing the "sith" powers but using it with the mindset of a Jedi is a truly unique and powerful trait to be in control of.

Which is why I think ones ego is one of the biggest tools in their arsenal, depending on their ambitions and passions in life. Of course, to reach this point of using the ego in a positive way, one must face SEVERAL "Ego Deaths" and "Reality Checks" along the way. But it's all part of the learning process, it's all part of a way for every person to become the absolute best they can at whatever passion they are pursuing.
