Re: Anyone Here Love to Listen to Folk Music?
"Folk music, in the original sense of the term, is music by and of the people. Folk music arose, and best survives, in societies not yet affected by mass communication and the commercialization of culture. It normally was shared and performed by the entire community (not by a special class of expert performers), and was transmitted by word of mouth.

During the 20th and 21st century, the term folk music took on a second meaning: it describes a particular kind of popular music which is culturally descended from or otherwise influenced by traditional folk music. Like other popular music, this kind of folk music is most often performed by experts and is transmitted in organized performances and commercially distributed recordings. However, popular music has filled some of the roles and purposes of the folk music it has replaced.

Folk music is more or less synonymous with traditional music. Some would use either term with a more specific meaning, restricted to just popularized-folk/traditional music or just not-popularized; however, both terms are used interchangeably among the general population and are not strictly defined."

Where Have All The Flowers Gone: The Songs Of Pete Seeger

A 2 disk set, very nice

The duet of "Kisses Sweeter than Wine" by Jackson Brown and Bonnie Rait is really cool, kind of a reggae beat.

How about the Flying Burrito Brothers?

Dilatoriness:

Yeah. Daniel Lanois. Good Canadian boy.
Folk , in his own way, I think.

OP:

Good question, apparently.

Thought that too SHEEP.

I like it when it's not pure but has rock, blues, jazz and world music influencies in there also, even classical.

Is a really great folk station, and they offer several Internet feeds, MP3 included so the non-MS-mediaplayer folk are welcome :-)

People falling through the ice here, winter vanished for a while, outdoor folkfests in planning stages ;-)

He has the NO sound but he's a Canadian.
Bob Dylan definitely sounds different everytime when DL had him produced.

I like most of the stuff he does cause of that distinct spacy psychedelic feel he brings into the sound.

Re: Anyone Here Love to Listen to Folk Music?
I have XM 14(bluegrass) & 15(folk) preset in the car. Listen a lot.

Got some cool old LPs - P, P, M, The Irish Rovers, Carter Family and my fav is a Commodore Classics called "The Soil and the Sea" with performances by Pete Seeger, Woodie Guthrie, Lee Hays, and Peter Hawes. It's an oldy but a goody.

Also, Blues, Rags, and Hollers and More Blues, Rags, and Hollers, by Koerner, Ray, and Glover, both originally released in early sixties. Spider John still plays around here quite a bit. Dave Ray died a couple years ago, and I think Tony Glover is still around.

Death Chants and Plantation Favorites, and The Transfiguration of Blind Joe Death , both John Fahey albums are right up there.

Also, the Holy Modal Rounders were a great psychedelic folk band.
