The rules really don't define what classifies as active, is something that erupted 5,000 years ago once considered active. I noticed 7 volcanoes on that list that don't stand a chance in 2000 more years or ever erupting, if at all. But regardless, they are volcanoes and are amazing to explore. I like watching volcano's too...I keep a close eye on Cleveland. Here is the latest report.. 2012-08-05 12:30:06 - Status Report A small explosive event at Cleveland volcano occurred yesterday, August 4, at 8:38 AM ADT (16:38 UTC) based on retrospective analysis of infrasound data. Satellite images show a brief, faint steam plume about 4 hours after the event. Satellite data also detect elevated surface temperatures in several clear views of the volcano last night. AVO has received no reports of activity from mariners or pilots in the vicinity of the volcano. [link to www.avo.alaska.edu] |
