I like the one where there are several couples sitting around chatting about their kids, when the dumb white guy asks if anyone is saving for college. Well no one is or knows how to set it up until the only black couple in the room speaks up and schools everyone. That is all a matter of perception and choosing what you want to see. I happen to notice many many commercials these days have slightly more ethnic looking people cast.

Many commercials for English speakers in the US are also done in Spanish for the Spanish stations. The actors cast in these commercials are never fluffy marshmallow white Anglos. The people cast seem to be carefully selected for the role so as to not alienate the Latino market or the mainstream white consumer.

Just watch a bit a Spanish TV and you will be amazed at the number of commercials that are also done in Spanish.

Wow, thought I was the only one who noticed this. Never saw it mentioned before. I agree. Theres always an idiot white guy, attractive white girl and an attractive, smart black man who gets the girl. They also like to film at angles where the girl and black guy appear to be toughing while the white guy sits at least a foot away from the white girl.

Well, I don't really watch TV, but I was on an extended vacation recently and got to see more than I liked. I didn't really notice the racial aspect, but what I did notice is that almost EVERY commercial has one raving idiot and one sane person selling them on the product. This became a trend years ago and was part of the reason I stopped watching TV altogether back then. I guess PR depts are like Hollywood - it's easier to just rehash crap than think of something new.

Don't get me wrong - a raving idiot can be hilarious....look at Monty Python's Flying Circus or any of their movies. Even South Park. Just not idiocy for idiocy's sake.

That's pretty much it and it's disgusting. It was about 8 or 9 years ago when I really started noticing it in TV advertising and it's as prevelant as ever now. This is one big thing that disgusts me about the big multi-national conglomerates. Advertising now is not all about selling goods and services but hardcore social engineered propaganda.
