Here's what I think really set him off:

The DM says he recently broke up with his G.F. He's also 40 years old, middle aged, and well past his youth. He was having a bad mid-life crisis and his break up sent him over the edge. He probably saw the Sikhs [who are very family oriented and usually successful people] and became enraged with jealousy and anger with his own failings in life.
