More Swine Flu In Ohio- 15 People Now Have Tested Positive
An area resident who recently showed animals at the Ohio State Fair has tested positive for swine flu, becoming the first confirmed case of the H3N2 influenza virus in Clark County.

The young girl, whose name and age were not released, was exposed to the virus after having direct contact with two hogs that were sent home from the fair in Columbus last week after tests revealed they had swine flu.

Nationwide, more than 30 people have tested positive for the new “swine flu” strain in eight states, including Ohio, since July 2011, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Ohio currently has 15 confirmed cases, including 14 cases in Butler County that were associated with those who had direct contact with swine at their recent county fair.

CDC Influenza Division Deputy Director Dr. Dan Jernigan said the detection of the virus at a few fairs last year and its re-emergence this year makes the disease one to watch closely.

“There may be something different about the H3N2 virus in its ability to be more easily transmitted to people that warrants closer monitoring,” Jernigan said in a CDC report late last month.

CDC officials speculated in the report that the acquisition of the gene from the pandemic H1Na virus may make the H3N2 viruses more transmissible.

So... don't kiss pigs at the county fair?
"God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787

"having direct contact with two hogs that were sent home from the fair"

You would think they would incinerate the pigs local?

Send them home? To infect more pigs?

I contracted H1N1 two years ago. How different is this new strand? H1N1 was pretty tough but I fought it off with just over the counter meds...I didn't realize I even had it til I was almost recovered.

I am one of sixteen, I escaped detection. I'm headed to your area unknown, undetected. Do you feel better now?

I'm spreading to you, and your family members. Do you feel even better?

Wake up! Dip!

Why is it called swine flu when pig flu is easier to spell?

Re: More Swine Flu In Ohio- 15 People Now Have Tested Positive
I live in the country area, I don't like cities. This is one of the reasons. All my air is filtered because I have year round allergies, so that also helps. The last time I came down with something was back in January when I was out and caught that stomach virus that makes you puke.

I also take immune boosting supplements liposomal vitamin c being one of them. I have it in the goo version rather in the pill. So I know it works because when I take it I feel better than I did without it, I noticed it also aids in relieving my allergies.

Just about everything I take is all natural, even my deodorant is all natural. It removed a skin tag under my arm within 3 weeks without the use of surgery or harsh chems. It has aloe in it so I'm not sure if that's the thing that removed it. I still use it daily.

CDC Reports Cases 18-29 of H3N2v Virus Infection; Continues to Recommend Interim Precautions When Interacting with Pigs

August 3, 2012 –This week CDC reports 12 additional human infections with influenza A (H3N2) variant* virus in 3 states: HawaiiExternal Web Site Icon (1 case), OhioExternal Web Site Icon (10 cases) and IndianaExternal Web Site Icon (1 case). The H3N2v virus contains the M gene from the human influenza A(H1N1)pdm09 (2009 H1N1) virus, as have the previous 17 cases detected since July 2011. All of this week’s reported cases occurred in people who had direct or indirect contact with swine prior to their illness. The 10 cases in Ohio were associated with attendance at a fair where reportedly ill swine were present. The H3N2v case reported by Indiana also occurred in a person who attended a fair where swine were present. CDC continues to recommend preventive actions people can take to make their fair experience a safe and healthy one.

We had unconfirmed swine flu as soon as it got to NC. Had to feed my daughter popsicles in a cold bath to get her temp down to safe level but friends could not get their daughter's temp to stop climbing. Took her to hospital at 105. They tested and confirmed swine flu in her. It was a long winded illness and miserable. We survived.
