Worth getting a gun in Australia?
As title says, do you think its worth getting a gun in Australia?

Mainly want it for safety when the Sh** hits the fan.
Only have a choice of rifle or shotgun.

Just interested in your thoughts.

Rifle for range shottie for CQB
Get both ?

I'd go a rifle with scope can guide your rounds down range then battle in all ranges unlike the shotgun which limits your range but deals explosive damage at close range. Guns are fun to shoot just takes 6months for licence registration longest wait ever then head down range and practice shoot up the targets gotta learn how to handel your weapon they not toys.

Shotgun only have an effective range of 100m, good for close encounters, were as a rifle will give you better range.

Go for a 223 calibre rifle, they are the most common you will see here in australia, many brands make them, reloading gear is plentiful, so you can reload your own shells etc.

As for a shotgun, any of the Browning, Beretta, Bruno and lesser brands are relaively cheap to buy, go for a double barrel shotty with full choke on both barrels if possible, just so you get decent range.

As you prob know, the average bloke with a gun license can only buy singleshot or bolt reload guns, if you want to get a semi-auto, best get some land and claim primary producer permit.

and once you have your arsenal, pray for the Zombie apocalypse!!

You would probably only want it to protect your stuff from potential criminals? Just any firearm should work but the best available would be preferred. Unless you are a hunter you may never use them. I have a few that do nothing but collect dust.

Get both.

Nice to see an Aussie with some common sense. Yeah, I know there are some out there, it's just that the majority on this site are senseless animals. They can't be reasoned with. All the better reason for you to arm yourself, OP.

Best wishes for your endeavors.
