YOU are the one throwing VERY misleading figures around. 80 million is the more realistic number. That's not even a third of the population of the United States.

Are you saying only about 1% of the world population lives in the Southern Hemisphere?
Have you ever even seen a globe.
I should add Brazil, definitely an industrialised nation.

Out of that 80 million, how many are ACTIVE amateur astronomers?

Here comes the asspull...

Answer: NOT MANY. A few thousand at the most.
 Quoting: **ZetaMax**

Even if true how's that not enough?
There's only so much sky to go around.
BTW, it's winter in the Southern Hemisphere, i.e. plenty of night-time.

Idiot of troll?
We let you decide.

Good - we have a point of departure. Out of those thousands, how many have even heard of Niburu?

Let's be generous and say HALF.

Now out of those who have even "heard" of Niburu, how many are aware that there is even "concern" about it's return?

Let's HALVE the number again.

Now out of those who know of the raging debate online, how many are actually going to pay ANY attention to it at all?

We're getting down to a VERY small number who would even have the thought to LOOK for Niburu.

And out of those who would even bother looking, what kind of "effort" would go into the search? How many would spend more than FIVE minutes?

An even SMALLER number ...

I think you are missing the point.

Nibiru, if it was real, would stick out like a sore thumb. Astronomers, amateur and professional alike, would notice. It doesn't matter if they haven't heard about it. If they suddenly saw a bright object in the sky they would know it was out of place and would immediately look into it.

We can dismiss the professionals, because by now, none of them would want to end up like Harrington. So we're stuck ONLY with amateurs. How many amateurs are actually trying to "best" the pro's by finding something "new" - as opposed to those who just like "touring" space and the planets, randomly and haphazardly? How many would actually KNOW that they were looking at something that "WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE THERE???" These are AMATEURS remember - the vast majority do not have Ph.D. level degrees in astronomy, and probably couldn't do "orbital mechanics" if their life depended on it. Most simply like looking at the pretty nebula, the fascinating rings of Saturn, etc., and enjoying the sense of "wonder" of it all. Again - we're talking AMATEURS here - the MAJORITY of them. They answer to no one - except their own internal desire. Not a good source for DISCIPLINED information. Some? - yes of course. MOST? NOT!!!!
