What's the difference between a DPMS $500-600 AR and a $1,000+ AR?

I can spring for a good DPMS under $600, so what's stopping me? Why do I need to save up for a Rock River or Bushmaster?

About 400 bucks... and a bit more refinement.

notHing wrong with the dpms if its all you can afford. but if you spend more, you get better machine work and higher quality components. thus slightly higher reliability.

edited for typos.... FUCKING AUTO CORRECT on this phone kills me!

You get what you pay for in a firearm. The Bushmaster ar 15 is darn near perfect and almost fool proof in it's operation.

Just buy the DPMS. you can always upgrade the upper later, or just get higher grade internal parts when you have the money.

The lower, wich the upper half attaches too, is mostly just a brace to hold the trigger group and magazine, the upper is where all the critical parts are.

Get what you can now, cause the prices are not going to go down.

And get training cause having a gun does not make you knowledgeable, it only makes you dangerous to everyone around you, including your family and friends.

Nothing wrong with a DPMS, buy it, get some extra mags and plenty of ammo. Better to need and not have. AKs are OK too, but I prefer the AR, it's really a personal choice.

If you only want to spend that much, go get an M70. They're around $600 and comparable to the top of the line Russian AKs.

DPMS makes a fine rifle. My LR308 is very accurate and robust.

If you are looking for another value try Stag. Very nice little rifle. I have over 7000 rounds through mine with no FTFs,no FTEs,still accurate as the date I bought it.

In the end the difference is money to buy 1000+ rounds of SS-109s and extra mags.

DPMS will FAIL under heavy use. If you buy it get ready to have extra parts and lots of cleaning supplys.

My log book is currently at 1500+ rounds on my LR308. Not a single problem.

As for cleaning, every DI type AR requires cleaning under heavy use.

Patches, brushes and oil are cheap .......FTFs are not.

One you can depend on saving your life, the other you can't.
Save up and buy a Smith & Wesson or Colt.
Stay the fuck away from Bushmaster, anyone who has REAL experience with an AR-15, and not just youtube reviews will tell you the same.
I made the mistake, and I learned from it.

Re: What's the difference between a DPMS $500-600 AR and a $1,000+ AR?
I can't answer for the $1000+ ARs but I've had no problems with my DPMS. It doesn't get what some would call HEAVY use. I shoot 300 to 500 rounds a month of American Eagle 223. I've never had a fail to eject, but I did have one or two fail to feeds (the steel mags that came with it were pretty cheap) until I got my P-Mags. I bought it early last summer so it has to have 4k to 5k rounds by now. Mine doesn't have a forward assist or a dust cover, but I haven't needed either. But you may want those options. I keep it fairly clean and run it wet and it does exactly what I want. It goes bang every time I pull the trigger.

Buy the Smith & Wesson M&P Sport.
Should run you around $650.00.
It's the best budget AR out there.
