There were actually a dozen at the Monmouth Beach area in NJ:

A dozen or so sinkholes have formed along a New Jersey beach, terrifying one resident who fell in and alarming officials who visited the swath of coastline Thursday.

The guy that fell in was WALKING IN THE WATER.

ARMY Corp saying its erosion, but another one happened in Cherry Hill NJ as well...not on the beach:

Emergency crews worked around the clock to fix a ruptured water main.

A valve blew on the 30-inch pipe overnight Thursday, and that opened up a sinkhole in the middle of the street.
