Concern of possible EXTINCTION EVENT in Pacific Ocean due to Acidity levels!!
I have come across news regarding acid levels in the Pacific Ocean (off the west coast) which could relate to mass dieoffs. YET ANOTHER problem to already devastated oceans.

[link to www.cbc.ca]

There has been no further news on this subject really. Not a lot information can be found on this. I wonder if they will try and keep this quiet?

Most Americans don't understand its implications, and climate change denialists won't bring it up because they can't argue around it.

They can spin yarns all day about "global warming cycles," but rising CO2 levels are correlated to every extinction level event we have recorded.

I think it's important Jay, very important.
I don't know if i believe the primary cause of global warming is CO2 but C02 definitely translates in high PH levels and other problems.

Not to mention the other horrible things we contaminate the environment with.

No biosphere no people, it's pretty much straight forward.

People are idiots, lack of reproductive control and live for the day and all.

Like deer in the woods we have overpopulated and tech won't save us from natures corrections.

There keeping it under wraps because the fossil fuel industry spends massive amounts on advertising and lobbying. The ocean is being turned into soda water by increasing CO2 levels.

I remember seein a History Channel episode about acidity in Oceans and CO2 is a further stage first one as the reporter stated is from sulfur from the underwater vulcanoes which latley have increased a lot.
Since water is 2/3 of the planet they actualy don't really know how many are active right now.
So when u get a zone with higher acidity means that under or nearby tehre is/was underwater erruption goin and now they are just increasing.
The bad part is that since most are at large u cant see nothin but only the results of the erruption and in that case it's way to late .

Pretty sure is more going but in this case they really don't know much tho

Hi JayJ,

I was doing a bit of digging and saw an article on the National Science Foundation Website, when I click on the story, it brought me to the whole story and it relates to the Acidity in our oceans.......

Earth still absorbing CO2 even as emissions rise, says new CU-led study

Despite sharp increases in carbon dioxide emissions by humans in recent decades that are warming the planet, Earth’s vegetation and oceans continue to soak up about half of them, according to a surprising new study led by the University of Colorado Boulder.

The study, led by CU-Boulder postdoctoral researcher Ashley Ballantyne, looked at global CO2 emissions reports from the past 50 years and compared them with rising levels of CO2 in Earth’s atmosphere during that time, primarily because of fossil fuel burning. The results showed that while CO2 emissions had quadrupled, natural carbon “sinks” that sequester the greenhouse gas doubled their uptake in the past 50 years, lessening the warming impacts on Earth’s climate.

Scientists also are concerned about the increasing uptake of CO2 by the world’s oceans, which is making them more acidic. Dissolved CO2 changes seawater chemistry by forming carbonic acid that is known to damage coral, the fundamental structure of coral reef ecosystems that harbor 25 percent of the world’s fish species.

Hello Gizzie,

Thanks for that. I will take a look at the article. Appreciate your help with expanding this thread. I'm sure the Methane and CO2 have a direct correlation with this. I've created another thread trying to start up a discussion in relation to the huge problem we will be facing with Methane leaks.

I am also concerned about the oceans. I believe it to be the cradle of life, and as the oceans go so will everything else. The carbonic acid effect is real as the sulfuric acid from underwater volcanism. If you really doubt how serious and pervasive this is just look at the mercury levels in top feeding species. All that mercury bio accumulates in the food chain from the burning of coal from power plants. I hope to God that we acquire the wisdom to work with the Earth in a mutually beneficial way very, very soon

This is why this methane issue is so massive and important. I think we'd be gone even even before the Oceans went extinct. There is something terribly wrong with this planet. Everything from Weather to Environment. We need some serious change and fast. I really feel like we may have passed the point of no return, on some of the environmental damage that has been done. I really hope were not past it. Nice Post btw.

Not to mention the North Arctic where I believe methane may have already begun leaking. If that shit blows a gasket we are so screwed. I think it could also be artificially melted by our governments to get any oil reserves that may be locked up there. But all that could backfire. It will backfire, cuz if they are really doing this purposely, they might want to take at the weather patterns in the US, and reconsider.
