“We were out and saw the bubbling close to the Crosstex pipeline, so we told them, Landry said. “The next day or two, they took a long pole there and hit a big stumper down there. Bubbles started coming out pretty dog-gone good, then.

“Crosstex had the 36 inch line there. Right next to that are Arcadian and Enterprise pipelines. They were all saying they didn’t think it was theirs.

“Crosstex came out, dug up, sent divers down, brought equipment in and really spent a lot of money doing the right thing to see if it was theirs and finally said, ‘Sorry folks, it’s not the pipeline.’

“Enterprise and Arcadia went down and jettied – and their pipelines weren’t leaking.”

Admitting being unsure if what he saw relates to today’s disaster, Landry continued, “Right after they disturbed the area, more bubbles started appearing right near where they probed. Then, better than a dozen bubbling sites occurred that are there today.

“The strange thing is, as you go down Bayou Corne, gas is bubbling in four or five other sites, all the same before and after the big hole.”

There was a post talking about the smell of rotten eggs in the area which is specific of a certain gas.. I guess it would be from volcanic activity..

all is good if this collapses or the mystery gas explodes is not in WORSE case here...they think the worse that could happen is their well head will break?

what if their is a catastrophic failure to this complex?
this is worse case......what then?

forget about your freaking well heads!
what if the dome filled with brine leaks into the dome filled with butane?
what if what ever is causing the bubbles leaks into the butane dome.


but please if this does blow....then what is the worst case description?

i would like to have seen BP worse case before the Deep Water Horizon blew....i bet it did not include the death of those workers or the under water rupture!

Hydrogen Sulfide, but that doesn't necessarily mean volcanic activity.

It is a by product of sour gas type drilling. I'm guessing they may have stored it there, who knows.

I jus love how they say their butane is stored "deep in the stable salt zone" of the dome.

Heh! What's so stable about that dome that they evacuated area residents? And now authorities are asking residents who remained for next of kin contact information?

I just wonder how much nuclear material has been dumped or buried in that area my guess is the entire gulf area has been a dumping ground for toxic materials and nuclear by-products for some time thus the high radioactive count coming off the sinkhole is probably a manmade phenomenon.

I have to question who thought it was a good idea to stor all those butane tanks there

This is a note from an anti-fracking site about the sink hole.

"Along with a massive sinkhole, anger is growing in Assumption Parish, La. as details emerge that state and corporate officials knew for over a year about the potential for structural failure at a salt mine used to store oil and gas drilling waste but failed to alert local residents.

Adding to the alarm is the fact that Texas Brine, the Houston-based company that owns the mine, received a permit from the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources in 1995 to dispose of naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM) from oil and gas exploration in the cavern, part of the Napoleonville Salt Dome.

NORM is naturally present in geologic formations that contain oil and gas deposits and is released through drilling activities. Because the extraction process concentrates the radionuclides, they are also referred to as “technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material,” or TENORM. These materials include uranium, thorium, radium and their decay products.

Drilling for both oil and natural gas create NORM/TENORM disposal issues. Last year, a New York Times investigation found that wastewater produced by fracking for natural gas was tainted with higher levels of radioactive materials than previously known and was being hauled to sewage plants unable to treat it properly, resulting in releases to rivers and risks to the environment and human health.

The average radiation levels of soils across the United States range from a low of 0.2 picocuries per gram to 4.2 pCi/g, with Gulf Coast soils among those more likely to contain radioactive material. In comparison, produced water from oil and gas production can range from a low of 0.1 pCi/g to 9,000 pCi/g, according to the EPA.

In my first post about the sinkhole, I quoted a worker who posted a comment on a message board. He said there were 51 caverns and 19 of them hold hydrocarbons/waste from hydrocarbons.

I’m just going to say this again: The waste from fracking shale has to go somewhere. We KNOW this waste contains toxic and carcinogenic chemicals and hydrocarbons from the formations. We also know it can contain heavy metals and radioactive materials. NORM has a 1622 year half-life. MASSIVE amounts of this waste are generated from fracking and the industry has loopholes that allows mishandling of the waste. GET USED TO CATASTROPHES".

The river release statement goes a long way towards explaining all the fish die off's, especially in those tributatries that run in to the Missy. EPA tests for just about everything except radio active materials. That is unless a plant says we have accidentally released a small radio active amount of water etc.

The same can be said for mass bird die offs. The 'steam' as frackers call it, is anything but steam/water vapour, and has now also been proven to carry radioactive and carcinogenic materials, along with methane and other nasties.


Just stop fracking ffs.

they are just huge caverns not a drive in storage....just a hole craved out of salt....pumped water dissolves the salt then drain the water....insert gas into big hole with a control pipe on top.....all is good till the salt dome breaks!

oh they also found they could pump just about anything down into these domes....anything even nuclear waste!
so they did.
