A four-mile section of La. 70 South in Assumption Parish will be closed periodically from 9 p.m. Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday, parish officials said.

The closure will allow a truck to ride the highway section, vibrate the surface of the road and send seismic waves underground for testing related to the Bayou Corne area sinkhole, parish officials said Sunday.

John Boudreaux, director of the parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, said each closure will last about 15 minutes, traffic will then be allowed to pass briefly and vibration will resume.

Closures will extend from La. 69 near Grand Bayou, west to Lee Drive, Boudreaux said.

State Documentation Reveals that Radioactive Materials Were INJECTED into Five Additional Napoleonville Salt Dome Caverns.

A truly shocking revelation has been uncovered in SONRIS files concerning the fragile and ‘too close to salt edge’, Occidental Geismar #1, as well as four other caverns on the east side of Grand Bayou.

Also, King Jindal finally went to the Parrish. He flew over the sinkhole, he certainly wasn't taking a chance if the thing decided to spew again.

The MSM is now covering this in a light and humorous manner. Here are some excerpts (my italics)from a New York Times on-line article dated March 16. (Sorry I am not computer literate enough to provide a link.)
One Sinkhole Killed, and Many Others Opened, but Experts Counsel Not to Panic

But for fans of sinkholes, of which there are more than one might think, this is a very good time, indeed. [SNIP] There was [WAS??!!] a nine-acre sinkhole in Assumption Parish, La., that drew a visit from the environmental activist Erin Brockovich.
[SNIP]
Just as sinkhole madness was starting to die down, a sinkhole no bigger than a Hula Hoop opened up last Friday on the 14th hole at the Annbriar Golf Course in Waterloo, Ill., swallowing whole Mark Mihal, a 43-year-old mortgage broker.

So those of us who are concerned about this silly little nine-acre sinkhole are just crazy, right?

Sheriff Ackal says Lake Peigneur Could be Worse than Assumption Sinkhole.

"If we have a collapse there, it would be a hell of a catastrophe and it worries me, it has worried me for many years. Seeing it first hand, I know what could happen," said Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal.

He vividly remembers the Jefferson Island Salt Mine Collapse in 1980 and is now asking Governor Bobby Jindal to stop AGL Resources from expanding its natural gas storage caverns at Lake Peigneur.

So far, Governor Jindal hasn't responded to the sheriff's letter. Ackal says the sinkhole in Assumption Parish would be a mud puddle compared to what he thinks could happen at the Lake.

i just don't get the significance of those sinkholes, the state of LA has an area of 33 million acres, yet people are pissing their pants over a 10 acre sinkhole. can someone enlighten us why this is a huge deal? Can 10 acre grow into 1,000 acre (about 1.5 square mile) overnight?

a slough-in occurred last night along the southeastern side of the sinkhole – approximately 25 trees fell into the sinkhole along the southeastern side and a new crack, running parallel to the sinkhole edge, was observed on the Oxy 3 well pad access ramp to the sinkhole.

the Oxy 3/sinkhole monitoring alert status has been raised to Code 2 – requiring all work directly in and over the sinkhole to cease until further notice. Seismic monitoring has detected elevated subsurface activity in the area around the sinkhole and Oxy 3 area indicative of fluid and gas movement below the sinkhole, and a further slough-in was observed along the southeastern side of the sinkhole this morning,...

Latest flyovers, just under a minute for the pair. Something to hide mister? In the first one you can see on the far side in the shot where the foliage is not growing back and it is incidentally where a large slough occurred not that long ago. I'm far from a doom merchant but if that dome is dissolving it cannot be good news.

It would seem likely at this point. From the start, all of the trees that appear to be dead and lifeless have eventually collapsed inward. The green trees appear to still have some nutrients in the dirt and some solid ground to hold them up for the time being, but that could also change rapidly with the large areas that keep collapsing in.

Just found this from a couple of days ago. Some sort of eddying within the lake at the sinkhole. Don't know what to make of it but I am thinking it could be the start of the 'whirlpool effect like at Peigneur?? Relevant part at 4:50 for about 2 minutes.

Latest flyovers and they're avoiding the area you mention OP. Now spring is here it becomes obvious where the problems are. It looks like water gathering the 'wrong' side of the berm they've built as well?
