Re: CORN, SOYBEANS KEEP CLIMBING AHEAD OF USDA REPORT
The ethanol industry, backed by the Obama administration.
Why did farmers plant 96 million acres of corn this year?
The answer is simple: ethanol
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21611188

Sounds like another reason to up the fuel prices. Obama can't take the blame, blame the drought!

Re: CORN, SOYBEANS KEEP CLIMBING AHEAD OF USDA REPORT
Whose corn is it? Should the Obama administration suspend the federal Renewable Fuels Standard for ethanol production to provide relief to producers hurting from rising feed costs?

Given the RFS mandate, as much as 40% of the total corn harvest could end up in ethanol production. That would push the cost of feed even higher and ultimately raise meat prices for consumers.

Doesn't anybody care?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 21611188

My god ppl, the United States exports ethanol? why are we exporting it? To keep food prices high? Wake the fuck up ppl.

The estimate is over 10 Billion bushels which exceeds exports and domestic consumption.

The problem is ethanol production. If we curtail ethanol production there is an adequate supply.

AND WHY ARE WE BURNING FOOD FOR FUEL ANYWAY??? THAT'S CRAZY!!!!

The good news is we might as well GM corn if we are going to burn it anyway - who cares what is in it!

Re: CORN, SOYBEANS KEEP CLIMBING AHEAD OF USDA REPORT
Back to the topic. I live in a prime corn region -- central Illinois. My neighbors are farmers and part of my ground is in corn. I can tell you exactly what the corn crop looks like here. In a good year this county will average about 190-200 bushels per acre. This year it will vary from near zero to maybe 85 bushels. The hill land has almost no crop to combine. The bottom land is better, maybe some might reach 100 bushels. That would have to be fairly low ground.

The USDA estimate for this county is 130 bushels per acre. That is laughable. I can walk right out my door and pick an ear, and I can assure you not even the good ground will average 130 bushels. Also, it's too late to make it better. The corn is finished. Ears are starting to drop. They are going to have to combine it soo or a lot of it will be on the ground.

Before everyone freaks out over this issue, please spend some time to research the facts:

Fact is, that ethanol production from corn for motor fuels leaves a residual by-product known as 'dry distillers grains', or DDG - the tailings left after the distillation process.

Another fact is that DDG is a better (healthier) feed source for livestock than whole corn.

We get the additional fuel source, and the farmer's animals get their feed - all out of the same crop.

Google can be your friend ...

These businesses will have to adapt. Serve smaller portions. Most restaurants could cut portions and prices in half and there is still enough food to fill a person up.

Prices keep going up, and yet the guberment keeps paying farmers to sell their corn for fuel instesd of food. Barry wont be happy until all the corn becomes fuel, and we all starve.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

One tonne of corn produces 479 kg of WDG.

We get fuel and a little feed.

Blah Blah Blah; yet everyone has a new car, and everyone is still at the gas station buying gas, and still buying shit they don't need, and food at grocery stores, and having a worthless job that helps no one, rather than doing something for themselves and others.
