The conspiracy theories begin: What was the mystery blotch that appears on Mars rover photo - but disappears two hours later?
Conspiracy theorists have worked themselves up into a lather over a mysterious blotch visible in the first black and white photographs taken from NASA's new Curiosity rover as it landed on Mars.

The faint but distinctive dot which can be seen on the horizon of the Red Planet was taken by a device on the $2.5 billion robot called its Hazcam and relayed by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter back to Earth.

However, two hours later when the satellite made another pass over Curiosity, the rover sent another batch of images that revealed that the blotch had eerily disappeared.

Cue the nasa tards that will tell us how it's hard and expensive to get a picture from a shitty 1970's camera back to earth.

Nice link, it really paints anyone who would even talk about this like a nut job. That is the real purpose behind it.

The picture quality is UNACCEPTABLE for ANY camera launched in 2003.

It is SO FAR BEYOND RIDICULOUS that it's unspeakable. Even in the 90's there were 12 megapixel professional digital cameras available for only about $20,000 and by the year 2000 cameras that could blow that picture away cost less than $50. The little 640X480 digital cameras were out then, and they took OK pictures. This is out of the ballpark bad. And why on earth does this probe have a 200 Mhz processor? That bench mark was passed by 1995 in even a modest cheap pc.

I guess if the mission is FAKE, bad optics are a must! Even the better camera is a piece of trash!

I'm gonna send NASA a mail where I offer them to use my cellphone camera on the next mission, as it takes pictures that are much more detailed than this, and you can actually SEE wtf you are taking a picture of.
