Open carry in Texas

NJ might as well not be on that list. It's impossible to get a permit. It's only for security people while on the job.

Texas already allows open carry without a licence, it's concealed carry that you have to have a registration...

It's not at all unusual to see people in our area of the Texas Panhandle with holstered side-arms and rifles openly carried in their vehicles...

Pennsylvania also allows open carry. I always open carry when I walk my dogs in the woods.

One of my friends was in line at Turkey Hill to pay for his gas. A woman from out of state saw his gun and started to freak out. A state Trooper was in line behind him. The woman said to the trooper "that man has a gun!" The trooper smiled and said "he sure does". End of encounter.

Do you have a link to the law allowing open carry? I can provide several that show it as illegal for pistols.

I have to disagree with you. I lived in Borger for 18 years and i not once have ever seen anyone other then a LEO's open carrying.

You can legally carry a gun in your car in the state of Texas without any licenses

Texas only allows you to carry a concealed pistol on yourself for protection. Texas DOES NOT allow open carry. Ii like to keep mine hidden. I'll sign it because I think we should have a choice.

Perhaps this will help. When I got my CC in Texas, it was my understanding that if you have a CC you cannot open carry, but if you do not have a CC you can open carry. In the non urban areas of Texas it is not unusual to see farmers/ranchers open carry in town.

If you live in Texas you can't. You can walk down the street with a weapon exposed but an LEO CAN stop you and bother you if he wants to ask you why you are walking down the street with a weapon for that reason only. I just say I'm IN TRANSPORT with it and that satisfies them.

Even if open carry was legal, its only effective if EVERYBODY is doing it. If you're a lone dude openly carrying then you're also a walking target for cops AND criminals. It would take decades after the law passed for it to be normal for every citizen to be strapped and therefore effective at preventing crime because nobody is going to want to start shit then.

It IS legal, in every single state. Educate yourself.

Oh YES they can arrest you for it. That's why I tell them I'm IN TRANSPORT from wherever. Texas thinks as long as your gun in concealed, you are not instigating trouble. That's why we have the concealed handgun permits now. You can't even have a shotgun in a gun rack anymore. It has to be hidden unlike years ago.

I'm the guy that back in 1980 had the gun rack in the window with three full spots and so did a lot of other people. Back then every pickup had a gun rack with at least two weapons, a rifle and a shotgun. When is the last time you have seen that in downtown Houston?

Open carry is not at this time legal in TX, Texas penal code 46.02 and 46.03 are the laws on this, Texas penal code 46.15 provides exceptions to these laws in certain circumstance, one of which is traveling, which is defined as:

A person is presumed to be traveling if the person is:
(1) in a private motor vehicle;
(2) not otherwise engaged in criminal activity, other than a Class C misdemeanor that is a violation of a law or ordinance regulating traffic;
(3) not otherwise prohibited by law from possessing a firearm;
(4) not a member of a criminal street gang, as defined by Section 71.01; and
(5) not carrying a handgun in plain view.
