I see people everywhere with open carry and they never get in trouble... I guess it's one of those laws that's written down but no one actually enforces it. Guns are a huge part of Texas and always will be so even though it's nice an all that you are starting this signature it isn't really a pressing issue because they don't enforce it at all. Anonymous Coward User ID: 21666458 United States 08/10/2012 02:06 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | We hold that all citizens who may lawfully purchase a handgun be allowed to carry openly in public in the State of Texas except for those places prohibited by law. We also call for state preemption of all handgun laws concerning open carry in Texas. Quoting: Midnite_rider 1. Every individual has the right and responsibility to defend their self against unjustified threats of death or serious bodily injury. 2. The Constitution of the United States guarantees the right of individuals to keep and bear arms. 3. Criminals are not deterred by rules, regulations, and laws forbidding the possession of weapons. A man bent on mass murder will not be stopped by a rule forbidding him to have a gun. 4. It is well known that the requirement to conceal a handgun for the purpose of protecting self, friends, and family can be difficult especially in Texas with our extreme heat since a person will usually have to wear a jacket to properly conceal a handgun and to avoid "printing." 5. The requirement to conceal a handgun can make it difficult to draw the weapon should the life of the carrier or the life of someone else be in danger. 6. A criminal will not open carry a weapon because he does not want to draw attention to himself. We believe that a citizen openly carrying a handgun lawfully will be a deterrent for crime. 7. Ten states including Arizona, Alaska, Idaho, Kentucky, Montana, New Mexico, South Dakota, Virginia, Vermont, and Wyoming all allow open carry of handguns without a license. Twelve states including Connecticut, Indiana, Iowa, Georgia, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Dakota, Rhode Island, Utah, and Tennessee allow open carry of handguns with a license. In fact, Texas is one of only SIX states in the entire United States that completely bans open carry of handguns. 8. In these states, Open carry is very common and it does not alarm law enforcement or other citizens. For the foregoing reasons, we residents of the State of Texas affirm and assert that all citizens who may lawfully purchase a handgun be allowed to carry openly in public in the State of Texas except for those places prohibited by law. We also call for state preemption of all handgun laws concerning open carry in Texas. Sign the petition here. CrazyNut User ID: 17525624 United States 08/10/2012 03:37 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think it would be nice to make it legal to do what we all do anyway here in Texas. Kinda like smoking pot. I smoked a lot of weed when I was younger. I quit about 20 years ago on my own and it wasn't addictive so the cold turkey approach presented no problem. Unlike what Reefer Madness might have people of my generation believe. You know, I've never once, not once had a problem with a LEO in Texas when it came to me carrying my weapon or smoking weed for that matter but I've never blown smoke in a cops face LOL. And I lived in Harris County (Houston) most of the time. |

Captain Spaulding User ID: 21326363 United States 08/10/2012 04:10 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Personally, I wish you would start blowing each other away in public, would make for great youtube exposure and there would be less Texans running around with guns. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1053923 Here in Arizona we can open carry or carry concealed Without a license. We are not "blowing each other away". Open carry has been legal here forever. It is still somewhat uncommon to see anyone in Phoenix, openly carrying, it is more common on weekends among those going camping or target shooting though. Most people do not make use of these rights, but it is nice to know they are available, if needed. The part of Phoenix I'm in, you have to carry because the police won't bother showing up when you need them. A kid pulled a gun at the local dog park here, you could throw a rock and hit the police station. Someone called 911 but it took the cops over half an hour to show up (they could have walked there in less than 3 minutes). By the time they got to the park a dog had it's leg ripped off by the kid's dog and the punk was long gone. I tried to sneak around behind him with my knife, but his girlfriend warned him first. If the police won't do their jobs, we have to do it for them. It's not the first time police haven't bothered to respond to a gun call. In L.A. a guy held an AK on me in my alley and my wife called it in. It took them 45 minutes to sow up, then I WAS the bad guy. In MY garage, covered in sawdust on a Sunday afternoon. And they wonder why we don't trust them. |

Source: Bill of Rights. amendment #2 Of course you are right, or in the case of the people from over the pond which we stomped, Spot On. However, the Supreme Court of the United States has, over the years whittled down the way it once was not too long ago. So, what do we do now? Unfortunately I think BO will get elected again, we will NOT go back to the way it was when I was younger until the beast in the White House goes away and unfortunately the republicans have nothing to offer this time around. |
