Mind many of us back in the 60's and 70's who were opposed to nuclear power stations were willing to entertain some nuclear power stations if appropriate steps were taken to ensure the population from harm wherever possible.

Part of what we wanted to achieve was vast 'green zones' around nuclear power plants capable of absorbing spills and having holding ponds for escaped water, instead of having water from power plants dumped right back into rivers. We also wanted the power company and/or government to set about reasonable precautions such as handing out and maintaining the supply of iodine pills along with sound evacuation plans and early warning systems for people nearest to power stations.

The Government failed on many levels, thus we felt there was only one option and that option was a no nuclear one.

I guess Fukishema woke up a few officials and got them to start taking the risks a bit more seriously.

Nothing like waiting 60 or so years to start doing things the right way.

I would hope they start doing things right but this seems like giving people in a air plane oxygen before the plane crashes. We need to open the markets up to free energy but TPTB don't want there rich buddy's complaining how much money they will lose to it.
