Another appreciation day in the making? Papa John’s CEO Roasted for Obamacare Comments in Media, CNN slams claims as "false"
...

The left had a collective screaming session over his comments. Colbert slammed the quality of Papa John’s Pizza: “People will not pay another cent because when you order a Papa John’s pizza, it’s only after you’ve reached a state of such desperate gnawing hunger that you’d eat the ass off a raccoon that drowned in your bird bath, and, even then, only after making absolutely sure that you’re all out of drowned raccoon ass. And now Obama expects you to shell out almost three extra nickels for this hot turd pie? F*** that! Eat the nickels, you have your dignity.”

Colbert continued: “I believe every human being has a fundamental right to affordable health care. But at what price? There has to be a line we do not cross. And it’s 14 cents. Because if we just sit idly by while everyone gets access to a doctor, today it’s just 14 cents more a pizza, tomorrow it could be three cents more a taco. And I would rather be dead.”

Colbert, of course, is a comedian – but more serious outlets were similarly dismissive of Schnatter’s remarks. The LA Times’ Tiffany Hsu reported: “Get ready to pay more for your Papa John’s pizza if “Obamacare” goes into full effect … a whopping 15 to 20 cents more.” Paul Whitefield of the LA Times dismissed Schnatter’s concerns in a vicious opinion piece, opining: “Especially considering that in exchange for that 15 to 20 cents extra, millions more Americans will have healthcare, meaning that perhaps they’ll be healthy enough to order one of those artery-clogging hunks of cheese, meat and dough once in a while.” The Boston Globe piled on: “Schnatter, a fundraiser for Mitt Romney, may be accurate in explaining how some fast-food chains will cover the costs of new provisions in the law — by slightly raising prices. But he is wrong to complain.”

CNN Slams Papa John's Over Concerns About ObamaCare Costs; Insists Claim 'False' Even With Data to Prove That

Apparently CNN considers the stating of cold, hard economic realities to be risky partisanship now. Take the case of Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter claiming that ObamaCare will increase costs for his company.

Papa John's is not the first company to claim Obamacare will raise its costs, but it is the first to be viciously attacked by CNN.

On Thursday’s Situation Room, CNN felt it necessary to not only examine the ‘truth’ behind Schnatter’s claim but also to attack his comments for their supposed political repercussions. CNN’s Lisa Sylvester claimed that:

Schnatter may not have realized his comments would be picked up by the political blogs, but what corporate bosses say even to a small audience can quickly go viral. That's what happened to the executive Dan Cathy of Chick-fil-A after comments to a Baptist publication that he supports the biblical definition of the family unit.

The blow-back has been fierce:

“Papa John’s pizza extortion,” ran the headline for a story Wednesday from Salon, a news website.

“Vote for Romney or we'll raise our prices” was how Daily Kos, a liberal news site, topped its story , which went on to illustrate Mr. Schnatter’s links to the GOP presidential candidate..

Some Twitter users are urging a boycott of the Kentucky-based pizza chain.

But such reactions may be overdone. Was Mr. Schnatter making a political threat – or simply explaining the economics of the pizza business? You be the judge.

People who regularly order pizza should pay more, they are the ones driving up the cost of health care, and, people who occasionally order pizza should not give a fuck about the extra 15 cents.

I agree with this, I also think he was merely being honest. An added cost to the business is of course going to be passed onto the consumer as well.

So besides being a rightwing Romney tool, I can see by the video that Schnatter is also a liar. I'll be sure and stay away from Papa John's forever.
